    Scouting tips for Draft

This is my first time playing franchise mode in a few years... anyways just wondering how do people breakdown their scouting time. Like i sent my scout to go scout the OHL since there was 162 forwards i told him 6 weeks which is 15% of the season... I just seems not laot of time to scout WHL, QMJHL the States as well as Europe as well so just wondering what ideas people have to suggest out there for new ppl like us trying out franchise mode..

I recently bought this game, I'm somewhat confused, exactly how many scouts do you have per franchise. Can you send more than one out at a time? Do you even need to waste time in the small countries that only have a few prospects.

Ok.. Im not professional at playing but i AM a master at scouting..

Question 1: Are you playing with Owner mode on? if so you budget is very important. If not then you can hire 20 scouts and not worry about costs. I personally dont care abpout OWNER mode and turn it off.

Here is my strategy when scouting

I do NOT have any scouts for NHL or AHL. If you have any of those scouts and they are B or Higher for the OHL,WHL, OMJHL or USA keep them but only if all the attributes are B- or higher.

Ok step one is getting the highest Graded scouts, some scouts are good in multiple areas and can be used for that purpose.

Here is my # of scouts to hire for each region

      NHL- 0
      AHL - 0
      USA - 3 - 1 for each area
CHL - 2(6 total) for every region
EUROPE - 1 or 2 - you can get away with 1 but 2 is better because usually one of those leagues is huge
      RUSSIA -2 -
SCANDANAVIA - 1 or 2 - you can get away with 1 but 2 is better because usually one of those leagues is huge

You can usually hire a total of 15 when the owner mode is one but after a every year you can add 1 or 2 more again depending on budget.

So knowing that you have at least 1 scout for every region. Here are the basic tips for scouting

When you have 1 scout in a region - depending on how many prospects are in the region, scout players for POTENTIAL AND COMPARISON - only scout players ranking 250 or less.

if you have 2 scouts in a region scout players for POTENTIAL AND COMPARISON, but let 1 scout do forwards(LW,C,RW) and the other scout do defense(D) and Goalies(G).

I usually scout the top 200 until the all-star break.

TIP: Use your DRAFT Board to see where you projected picks could fall. It helps give you a ballpark on who to watch.

Once you get 3 bars on a player you pretty much know what a players potential is and if he will fit your team. You need to know your teams(NHL-AHL) 100%. Once past the all-star break only scout the players around your projected picks.

TIP: ONLY draft HIGH Top 6 or Higher ONLY. There are plenty of them late in the draft that will take a while to develop but that is what the AHL is for.

TIP: ONLY sign players that will be in the NHL or High AHL players usually 72 and UP. The rest let them grow in their current leagues.

      Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention that I'm playing NHL 17, I'm sorry for the confusion. But I appreciate your response, and I might just jump to NHL 19 sometime this year

          Re: Scouting tips for Draft

I have a question on scouting for NHL 19.

Note that i am a total noob for NHL and hockey.

How can you improve the evaluation of your own players.

I mean i have players with low or medium accuracy in their scouting evaluation.
So I would like scout to analyse them and improve the acuracy of the evaluation of their skills.

But I do not see how to assign a scout to my own players.

Is that possible in the game ?

            Re: Scouting tips for Draft

In NHL 17, I just accept that I'm not going to be able to scout every region every year. In the first couple of seasons the CHL leagues are full of real junior players and most of the ones outside the 1st round suck, so for the first two seasons I focus on Sweden, Russia, US in hopes of uncovering computer generated players.

TBH starting season 3, you can probably go auto scouting and get similar results to if you specifically picked them

              Re: Scouting tips for Draft

when I scout I usually max out 50, I take 15 Centers and 12 Left wingers and 5 and 3 right wingers and 10 defensemen, just depends how many I can fit, in 50 person thing, another thing, teams have players on there roster dat need scouting that are unknown to scouts, so scout ahl rosters and NHL rosters, scouting starts in pre-season, my teams always needs G and RW right handed shooter, 4 or 5 LW and 4 C and 4 RW and 7 D and 2 G, u need to develop them, by putting them in pre-season or few NHL games, if u notice when start pre-season, other teams overalls are low, cause they are developing rookies, I suggest u do same, take rookies from AHL and goalies and put them in pre-season and put some superstars in AHL, u need few vets to stay of course, can't have all rookies, u need 8 veterans and rest rookies, 2 LW and 2 C and 2 RW and 2 or 3 D and 1 G for Vets in Pre-season and rest rookies.

I suggest u scout mesh well in locker room and competitive and leadership and rookies who want to win, also do skills and weakness and strength and weakness and characteristic, character profiles.
