Ten Years away -- what's the new "best?"

I haven't picked up a hockey game since NHL 08. Lately, I've had the itch to play a bit, so I figured I'd ask -- what's considered the "best" of the newer NHL games? Platform (console or PC) doesn't matter, nor does online play. Just looking for a solid "on ice" product with a good season/franchise mode.

Thanks in advance!

I honestly love NHL 18, there is a lot that can be done with it but it is the best gameplay on the new consoles with the proper sliders. NHL 14 is also a great game.

For gameplay, if you're trying to play actual hockey and not just skate through everybody and score 9 goals a game, NHL 18 is what you want. Plus, in franchise mode I feel like your players develop better, player separation in the ratings are awesome, and it has such a deep draft if you make the right picks. I've found low elites past the 5th round before. That does not happen in any other NHL game.

for a more arcade style gameplay, NHL 11 was always fun. The hits are huge, the gameplay is smooth.

At all costs, avoid NHL 15 and 16 for PS4/Xbox One.

NHL 18 (PS4) - with the correct sliders this game plays unreal...

if you like just simulation type game. then FRANCHISE HOCKEY MANAGER 4 is awesome but super time consuming.

Thanks! I think I'll pick up 18 this weekend. You guys have mentioned using "the right sliders" so, any suggestions? I haven't checked out the sliders forums yet, but will.

Not knocking arcade hockey (love and miss Hitz) but I'm looking for more of the "actual hockey" vibe and not arcade shootfest.

Thanks again for the info!

18 has, IMO, the best franchise and on-ice play this series has ever had. Not light years ahead of Legacy and 17, which I also enjoyed, but worth it for little things.
