Will EA lose the NHL liscense?

Just like how HB Studios now own the PGA liscense, will this be the last kick at the can for EA’s NHL?

I hope so.

No, it would be more like NCAA because there won't be an NHL game if that's the case.

Not sure I'm seeing the connection between this and the PGA game.

I pray that 2K takes it because this franchise has plummeted. They do zero marketing and the game seems to play worse for me every year.

They lost the PGA license because they were no longer making golf games. Not because the PGA decided to no longer do business with EA.

Some of you guys are so negative about EA's NHL games, geez.

I don't hope they lose the license at all. I want them to put it on Frostbite and do all the cool stuff they mentioned in their survey for NHL 19.

Yea, EA didn't "lose" the license for RM. They simply decided they didn't want it anymore. Until they decide to stop making an NHL game they will have an agreement with the NHL. I could be wrong but I don't think it's even an exclusive license so anyone else could step up and make a hockey game if they wanted.

It would probably be hard to enter in and compete with EA at this point though since they're 4 games deep now on current gen consoles.

I don't really agree with that. For the above example, HB came in extremely quickly and quietly and became the pretty unanimous better golf game and that's as an Indie start up.

That said, I don't think it's fair to compare a hockey game to a golf game and when HB started they had no intention of competing with EA and focused on different aspects and just through circumstance and success got really lucky.

I don't think it would be difficult for another developer to jump in now if they wanted to but I don't think the opportunity for revenue versus the risk to get there is worth it.
