Seriously, there are so many people that I see their username pop up and I know exactly what they are gonna try to do to me. I feel like it shouldn't be this way for competitive play.

Hide PSN Username
I suggest that we hide the usernames in ranked. I am sick and tired of dealing with the same people every day that know all my tendencies and I know theirs, I benefit from this as well against my opponents and it hurts me as well but it would make the game much more natural.

They need to remove the match up system they have in place. Open match making. I'm all for playing guys that are in division 6.Last edited by Pax_Vision; 07-17-2018, 01:44 PM.Gaming ain't easy, but someone gotta do it.

Re: Hide PSN Username
I disagree. In real life you get to prepare for the style of opponent you go up against. When you see that players name that beat you in the past come up you remember where you went wrong. So much more rewarding to adapt and overcome the guys previous strategy.
As for opening rank.. I’d be ok with that if all players had competitive hud. As it stands right now I know I go up against division 4 players that get to see my hud. I don’t like that. Let’s just go full competitive.Comment

Re: Hide PSN Username
I would say there are certain people I wish I could avoid all together since they have pretty much figured me out, but it's the nature of competitive game, and I wouldn't like it done to me.
As for hiding PSN names, that would maybe make things interesting but it's also important for me to know when I'm going to be dealing with a cheesy style like Mental stability so that I know to look out for it.Comment

Re: Hide PSN Username
just imagining this being done in real life. Neither fighter knows who they are up against and have to wear a costume with a mask so they can't see the face or body. Unless you're Struve or something then they'd know right away but it would be fun. Maybe Japan could do it.
Anyway, nah, I love rematches, especially if it's someone who has beaten me or gives me a hard game then I love trying to figure out ways to be more effective. I think it makes me a better player.Comment

Knowing your opponent promotes and enhances competition. In every high level competition ever people scout their opposition so they know their strengths and weaknesses. It creates personal rivalries between the contestants which also makes it more competitive as you want to beat your rival.
Facing guys you know is more fun. You can beat strangers pretty reliably just by doing your typical go-to moves but against guys who know you you need to adapt and make adjustments. That is a lot more dynamic.
Even then, you can already tell a lot about your opponent based on who their pick.
I wouldn't mind an option to hide your own name in case you don't want to be identified (e.g. avoiding stream sniping or training on alt account) but just hiding them altogether seems silly.¯\_(ツ)_/¯Comment

Re: Hide PSN Username
I think there needs to be a limit on openess between divisions. I’d say open from 3-6. Then Lv 3 down to Lv 1. Lv 3 would be open to all divisions, but Lv 4 and up would not face anyone below Lv 3.
I think this would give Lv 3 players the ability to play higher level guys sometimes. I believe Lv 3 is a base requirement of knowledge that needs to be established before they get thrown to the deep end. Any lower than that and I think we are discouraging newer players to the game.Comment

Please don't.
I need to know when I'm going to run into Okopoklous (sp?) and get my ritual beaten. I swear if I get matched up with him again, like 3 times in my past 7-8 fights, I'll cry. Has the game mechanics down to a tee.
Also FaithRoxTwitch. It's nice to prepare in advanced for jab, uppercut, hook + overhand spam.Comment

McGregor vs Diaz II confirmed unnatural.
Again, rematches are actually a thing in real life.Seriously, there are so many people that I see their username pop up and I know exactly what they are gonna try to do to me. I feel like it shouldn't be this way for competitive play.
As a matter of fact, we play on way less information. We don't get to study all of our opponent's previous fights with coaches to try and pick up on deeply ingrained tendencies they might have.
Besides, even if you picked up on habits and your opponent did too. That just forces you to become a better player. Adapt and mix up your options. If two players keep doing that no fight will be the same (assuming the game is deep enough).
I can't think of any real downsides, unless you're gimmicky..Comment

Re: Hide PSN Username
It's more of an issue for me personally when a player can memorize just ONE style of play and apply that same exact style of play to numerous different fighters in the game.
It'd be different if a player mastered DC for example... the aggressive well conditioned grapple boxer style and then applied that style to very similar fighters like Cain, Frankie etc, but when a player can apply one specific style to numerous fighters of different styles, that's an issue.
Btw, i'm very guilty of this too so i'm not trying to call anyone out specifically.
Recently, i've started using Jones and i can tell you this, you CANNOT be competitive with Jones UNLESS you fight like Jon Jones does and use the weapons that Jon Jones does. He has become my favorite fighter for this reason. Each time i watch his fight and apply what i saw in his fight to the game, it works incredibly.
I wish more fighters were like this.
With Jon Jones for example, his weaknesses are soooooooo pronounced you cannot brute force your way around it. You exchange boxing techniques with Gus in this game as Jones, you lose. You exchange combos on the inside with a good DC, you lose. No question. These are CLEAR very unforgiving weaknesses that the game absolutely demands you respect.
If this applied to other fighters as well in an extreme way like Jones, you wouldn't have to gameplan for players, you'd be game planning for fighters and that is far far far more interesting to me personally.
I don't think we should hide player tags, but i do think moving forward, the fighters should be different enough that good knowledge of the fighter is required to be successful with said fighter. So when you run into a player using a certain fighter, you're not thinking "Oh i know what this player does"... You'd be thinking "Oh i know the strengths of this specific fighter and i know his weaknesses, can i exploit that".
Another short example. I don't know any BW fighter that will dare brawl with John Lineker.... not even the very fast and powerful ones like Cody. Like John might not be the most skilled fighter, but you ain't brawling with him, unless you seriously wanna know what it's like to get brutally knocked out.
I wish he was feared like that in the game. But right now, Cody is basically John Lineker but better and that is far from how Cody actually fights.... dude is a counter striker but never gets used as such.
It's what we should honestly be talking about i think.
Someone here did mention that it'd be nice to be able to hide your own name in case you wanna stream and don't wanna get sniped and i absolutely would like that option. But apart from that, i don't think it should be forced on everyone.
Like if i was a really really really really good, i'd want you to see my name at the start of the match and feel that thing in your gut that tells you "Damn! there goes another loss". That was me against certain players last season lol... i'd see their name and just think "Dammit!".... and that's a good thing for a competitive game.Last edited by MartialMind; 07-18-2018, 11:14 AM.Comment
