But I would love to see a nearly complete overhaul of all range & hit detection mechanics in-game. You've pointed out several of the issues recently here & on twitter.

I'm sure some of them can be patched over (literally in UFC 3; or figuratively in the next iteration of UFC 4) .... but some of the issues are inherent to guts of the game engine itself and I'm not sure if they can be fixed without a serious overhaul.

Will be interesting to see what EA does go-forward.....risk upsetting the balance of striking with a big time overhaul of the physics engine? I'd love it, but would have some growing pains.....or, keep standing similar to how it is today, perhaps add a few features or tweaks, but no upsetting the status quo since it took half a decade to get to this spot ....

Fingers Crossed!
They can definitely keep the system, I love it, but they'll likely add something new for UFC 4. Fixing hit detection issues, magnetic sliding, etc etc.

Now grappling with more locomotion, especially the clinch and more movement on the ground, that would be phenomenal.

Tbh i think they should add as many possible ranges as possible, even the differnce between short and long hook ranges would be nice.

Long hook? Basically a haymaker or an overhand.

I think:

Elbow Range
Hook Range/Uppercut Range
Jab/Straight Range
Lunging Punch Range
Kick Range
Step In Kick Range
Out of Range

Would be enough.

Im talking about specific ranges that match our ability to throw punches at specific ranges.

Maybe a better method would be adding lots of minor hitboxes that each take a certain amount of damage as well as for things like shoulders and arms where no head damage is taken.

And how would they implement that with fluidity?

Do you mean the perk or general fluidity. Essentially it just gives punches more areas to lands that count, along with making accuracy matter alot more.

How this would affect hook range is essentially making them more effective then jabs in close, they would have a higher chance of landing clean as well as landing a lot harder.
