    Fighter Ratings

    What determines a fighters rating?

Does it come down to the moveset? Does it comedown to the moveset+stats? Because I'm sure many people have been wondering what determines what.

Fighters like, Dustin Poirier and Anthony Pettis are both considered B+s in the game, but comparing OVRS:

    Pettis:

    91 Striking
    88 Grappling
    86 Stam
    87 Health

    Poirier
    91 Striking
    89 Grappling
    91 Stam
    91 Health

And if you really go into detail, stat for stat Dustin in Superior in nearly everything.

Let's take a look at another weight class

Chael Sonnen, a C+ has these ratings

    86 Striking
    92 Grappling
    91 Stam
    88 Health

Göhkan Saki, a B has these ratings

    91 Striking
81 Grappling. Damn near the lowest of the low.
86 Stam. (With 89 Striking Stamina, one point higher than Sonnen's despite coming from a much more heralded background in striking and going multiple rounds in K-1)
    87 Health

What makes Sonnen a C+? Because looking at his stats, moveset, clinch moveset, next to say Pettis, he'd be a B+ for sure

What makes Saki a B? Aside from striking, the man's stats clearly warrant him being a C+ more than Sonnen for sure.

Let's look at another weight class

    Israel Adesanya

    91 Striking
    85 Grappling
88 Stam (Personally I believe his striking Stamina should be much higher)
    89 Health

    Paulo Costa

    90 Striking
    86 Grappling
    89 Stam
    90 Health

Yet, Costa is rated a B and Adesanya is rated an A.

Comparing their stats next to each other, I can't see why Adesanya is not a B as well. Or why either wouldn't be B+s at most.

I want to hear everybody's thoughts on this, and I would like for aholbert to chime in on this as well.

It could be purely arbitrary and not a computation resulting from the stats.

That would be pretty horrendous if that were the case.

I'm not saying that's necessarily the case, it's just a possibility.

            That would be wild.

Many people have wondered about specific character ratings, myself included, so I definitely would like to hear a response from aholbert or Geoff, or anybody who knows the ins and outs about it.

I have no clue what generates the ratings online. Have you guys noticed anyone's grade increase after an update? For example, fighters like Gastellum have received pretty significant stat bumps since release so I wonder if his grade was lower before those bumps.

In MW he is still an B, but in WW he's an A, but the stats are virtually identical.

Also, he needs a Rear Knee (Lvl 2) to be added. Literally attributed to his finish over Nate Marquardt, so I was appalled to have found that he has no Rear Knee last week unless he somehow has it now.

these fighter ratings need to be thought out properly for the next game. ALso i would like to see rating changes from stat updates if its warranted.

I don't think their rating changes when they get a buff. Has anyone had a change in fighter rating since release?

                        Re: Fighter Ratings

The grade is based off movesets, attributes, weight class, and popularity of the fighter in online matches. It is updated with every tunerset.

When attributes only move up by 1 or 2, maybe even 3 points, it won't affect the grade, especially if the fighter is not popular online. The last thing I want is to give an unpopular fighter a high grade, then they become even more unpopular because they are in the same bracket as Conor. "Why pick Poirier when I can pick Conor and get the same amount of rank points?"

I know some of you are thinking "wouldn't a higher grade make them more popular?" This is almost never the case, because the majority of users don't care for grades and always end up picking Conor, Nate, Khabib, GSP, etc. Only hardcore fans like yourselves are picking Gastelum, Sonnen, Saki, and other fighters at a decent grade to gain more rank points.

I see some good feedback and I can adjust the grades, but I would predict many fighters you use at B will move to A or A+. There would also be no secret "good" fighters out there who have an average grade but are pretty good (Cerrone, Barboza, etc).

Is it a lot of work to retool the grades a bit?

Some guys are pretty OP for their division and should be like a S tier. Or maybe have them as the only A+.

Like Max in FW, Conor at LW, TJ at BW

I was wondering this too, I like to use Elias Theodoru (sometimes) and Sonnen at MW....how is Elias is a B and Sonnen is a C...when Elias only strength is striking stamina while Sonnen is strong in many areas.
