    Switch Stance

    Hi all,

Have we ever been given definitive numbers on how the switch stance stat works? I'm fairly sure I read previously that the lower the switch stance stat the greater reduction in stats when you switch but do we have any exact numbers on the reduction?

    Thanks

    Re: Switch Stance

I've always figured with the switch stance stat, if a fighter has an 84 SS, that would equate to 84% of all striking stats. EX: Ngannou has 100 power in ufc 3. Let's say his SS is 84. He now has 84 power while fighting as a South paw.

Maybe I'm off target here, just how I've always calculated it in my head..

You can go into practice mode and turn on damage indicator. Even with a horrid switch stance, the damage is barely effeted. Not saying your equation is wrong, it's just that most strikes are dealing such low numbers that percentage becomes negligible.

I see..I haven't spent much time in practice mode as I just played the 10 hour trial. wasn't overly impressed so I haven't pulled the trigger. I had something like 25 days of playtime with 3, and I'm sure I'll buy the game eventually. But since practice mode now shows damage numbers, and you say the difference is almost non-existent..The way I calculated it was incorrect..at least in ufc 4.

Switch stance ratings directly effect the base damage of strikes, as well as the impact of move levels on strike damage. While few fighters have ratings low enough, it can reduce damage by as much as 40%, with the average loss around 10%. Early career fighters would be hit the hardest, as they can have very low stats.

That might not seem like a lot in any 1 strike, but it adds up.

It adds up in theory, but in gameplay, it just doesn't feel like it ever gets to the point where it pays off. The lowest switch stance for stock fighters is 80. So instead of the base damage for a hook being like 23, it's now 22. Biggest strikes like head kicks would be around a 47 going to a 44. With all the extra factors such as vulnerability and range playing a part, along with the comfort of stance preference, switching stances based off of that stat just doesn't seem to be worth any consideration.
BTW, I'm not advocating it should be changed. I enjoy comfortably switching stances after my one leg is battered to a pulp.

Maybe a speed and/or accuracy penalty would do better.

One could make an argument even for blocking/footwork.
Honestly, I'm a Southpaw and I feel significantly more defensively sound as a Southpaw than when I'm Orthodox. In Orthodox I typically feel restricted.

Then again, it may put too much of an emphasis on the stat, but I feel it would more closely resemble what it feels like to not be comfortable in different stances.
