Microsoft Update for EA SPORTS UFC 4

Hello EA SPORTS UFC Fans,

We have a quick update regarding some upgrades that Microsoft is enabling for EA SPORTS UFC 4 on the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S consoles. Starting today both consoles now support 60 frames per second (FPS) rather than 30 FPS**. Here are the full details about what is changing for each console:

Xbox Series S
  • Prior to upgrade - Supported 30 FPS
  • After Upgrade - Supports 60 FPS
  • No changes needed on your end to enable the upgrade.
Xbox Series X
  • Prior to upgrade:
    • Performance Mode - High definition at 60 FPS
    • Resolution Mode - Higher resolution at 30 FPS
  • After Upgrade:
    • Performance Mode - No change - High definition at 60 FPS
    • Resolution Mode - Higher resolution at 60 FPS
  • For the best experience, you will need to make sure you are in Resolution Mode. You can check this in the game settings under “Visuals”.
It is important to note that these upgrades were implemented entirely by Microsoft.

**The Xbox Series X previously supported 60 FPS only in Performance Mode.

I wonder if the game is hard coded to only allow the simulation to run at 30, because otherwise, if they changed it to a full 60, that's going to cause issues for players on the Xbox One S/X.

Nice that the Series S finally got 60 FPS, though. Should've been there from the start.

Re: Microsoft Update for EA SPORTS UFC 4

Is it really such a big difference (for the visual experience)? I'm used to playing on PC on 60FPS all the time, but when I switch to EAUFC I'm not bothered by a supposed frop in FPS.

Maybe it's a case of "if you don't know any better...".

@rabbitfistssaipailo: xtremeba1000 just answered that for ya. At least that's what people say: In competitive gaming, especially FPS - the genre, that is - benefits the most from FPS increase. Allegedly.

Via Eurogamer.

Also interesting is that no matter which option you chose, cutscenes always ran at 30 frames per second, regardless of the mode chosen. On Series X, the 1800p quality mode now runs at 60 frames per second, while all cutscenes in all modes are also locked to the same 60fps.

So, this is actually an interesting one because, at least on the PS4 Pro and PS5 (and I assume the Xbox One X/Series X), the cutscenes post-fight ran at 60, but there was an issue where it would “flicker” a frame before a camera cut, like the camera/characters had to warp to the next position, which would normally not be seen but since the cutscenes weren’t optimised for it, they looked a bit buggy.

They “fixed” this in the patch before last by limiting them to 30 FPS again, like in previous games, not sure if they’re 60 again on the PlayStation side.
