Re: Rubber guard is broken

yea I know what you mean it's always hard to 'buff' or 'nerf' cuz lots of times it goes too far the other way lol

But I think if they do the following it would help a lot

* Make it 20% more difficult to obtain rubber guard

* Make it 20% more difficult to GET OUT of rubber guard

and just hope that works LOL

Rubber Guard spammers are EXTREMELY annoying.

I like Boiler's suggestion a lot actually. -20/+20, get it done.

Yes and yes. Simple and gets closer to what we're looking for. I have no idea on the percentages, but it should be blockable, and definitely more difficult to escape.

Plus, rubber guard, functionally, is intended to slow down the transitions and control your opponent. (In submission grappling, I get the submission threat, but for an mma game, going straight to an omoplata, or a freaking gogo is just not something that happens often unless the opponent is pretty clueless defensively.) Right now, rubberguard is not functioning in this manner at all.

Re: Rubber guard is broken

please GPD ! Consider this!

it's one of the 'low hanging fruit' EASY FIXES that would really help rub out a sore spot in this game!!

Re: Rubber guard is broken

I have completely changed my stance on rubber guard over the last couple of weeks. Please don't nerf it. Put it this way, when you know exactly which direction your opponent needs to go to get into rubber guard every single time, even rubber guard isn't effective. I can literally get a takedown and sit in virtually any player on the game's guard using any half decent fighter against even a Diaz with 93 off the back and guard specialist. Any up or down transition is so easy to deny, the getup / triangle on the opposing side to rubber guard is so easy to deny, and because I've become so used to the first few start up frames of when a player tries to go into rubber guard, I can basically deny that every time too. Rubber guard is only an issue when the guy on top has much lower top game than the guy on bottom's off the back rating.

Please don't nerf rubber guard or the "full guard" transition. It will become completely useless in higher level play, meaning a takedown = guaranteed round win with the sub fighter not being able to get back up or advance position. If I don't mess up on the stick, I can already hold almost anyone using Diaz in full guard for the entire round as it is. Don't turn this game into "1 takedown = my round".

I propose giving every fighter with rubber guard a "full guard" transition option too, maybe increasing the stamina tax on the rubber guard transition slightly, and even making the sweep into side control a slower transition.

Edit: For anyone struggling with rubber guard and maybe doesn't know this... You can tell exactly which way your opponent has to go to get into rubber guard by looking at his feet. One foot will be on top of the other where his guard is closed. Whichever leg is underneath / on bottom, is the way he has to transition to gain rubber guard. As long as you fully understand the intricacies of grapple advantage and you get extremely used to that transition tell, you can deny rubber guard / the full guard transition pretty easily even with a top game vs off the back deficit.

I totally agree 100% with you. I even sent GPD a message about my concern. I hope he listens and they don't nerf the rubber guard to much or any other move from full guard.

Thanks man good to hear. I've known the tell for rubber guard with the legs for quite some time, it's only hit me recently though with having a good amount of high level fights in one go that if you focus on looking for that specific transition, you can basically sit in guard for the whole round. I don't actually think it needs a nerf at all, it's just a lot of people have issues with it. Right now (in high level, extremely sweaty fights haha) there is a bit of an issue with guard to be honest. Any time someone does complete an occasional "full guard" transition, I can simply posture up straight after it before they get a chance to use the getup or sweep me on the opposite side. They don't have a chance to use the momentum getup by pressing down when I posture up either because as soon as I posture up I go straight into half guard or posture back down. I'm finding it a little too easy right now to get a takedown against top players and just sit in their guard for the entire round to guarantee the round and win with ease in what could've potentially been an intense game.

So you're saying that even with the momentum, the posture up beats the get up?

Are you posturing up pre-emptively on on reaction to the get up?

If it's preemptive then you are at risk of being predictable and getting denied. If it's reactive and reliable I could see it being a problem.
