Can anyone tell me what this does? What are lunge counters? Is is when you sidestep an attack? Is it when you backdash or dash in? Can someone explain me what it is?

Yes, lunges are when you step. Dashing in won't count unless you catch them in a strike attempt, but the perk should have nothing to do with that unless they miss a strike. Plus, I believe you have to strike the right side where the liver is for this to work. Not positive, but they do usually call out liver shots with the commentating.
