Trickiest Sub Attempts To Deny

What's the most difficult sub attempt(s) to deny, in your opinion?

Triangle/Armbar from Full Guard is pretty damn hard to deny; even if you can see it coming, short denial window. But I think it should be that way so no complaints or anything!

There are two other attempts I have in mind --- but trying to see if you all have some others I'm overlooking.

These two *I still don't think I've ever denied* lmao --- at least with a 'true' denial, rather than a strike ---- I need to fix that in practice mode with two controllers or something, as I don't even think I am denying in the right direction...and it's not like the computer throws these up against you very often lol

* Flying Armbar from single collar --- man this thing is tough to see coming; because there are so many things you need to look out for in clinch, and this looks pretty similar to other transition attempts. I guess you just deny to the direction opponent is going towards? i.e. left or right depending on positioning. Rather than R stick down to deny? I really need to figure this one out

* Rolling Kneebar from Sub Back Mount --- argh this one is annoying --- no one's ever tapped me from this or anything but if I have someone hurt, and get into dominant back side mount, and they are able to start the sub and escape to a better position after I escape...not a game changer, but annoying! lol...not sure if I know how to deny this one either, but lots of times when they go for it, I end up hitting them in the face and interrupting it anyway.

Overall I think the way subs are setup is pretty legit in this game; a couple things I'd like tweaked or changed, but eh, mostly in good shape. Maybe even a bit TOO hard to finish someone w/ a sub.

I would add the inverted triangle from side control, so quick and smooth to apply just as opp lands the takedown. i get caught in that sucka a lot.

Re: Trickiest Sub Attempts To Deny

I'd like to change the method for deny submisstion attempt to the just one direction like takedown. The takedown is R2+down, now. I hope R2+up is deny for every submission attempt.

This would render all subs irrelevant against a skilled foe

Re: Trickiest Sub Attempts To Deny

Flying armbar from over under is denied with R2 and up

Hardest for me to deny is rolling Kneebar from sub back side and the imanari roll.

EA UFC1 was only work R2+up for deny submission attempt. I think, it's fine.

ahhh maybe that's my issue!

I keep trying to do it side to side, instead of up

(Is this the same for Single Collar Flying Armbar then?? I'm pretty sure there's a single collar flying armbar..lol..obviously I'm not a submission artist haha)

Couple other good ones you guys brought up

Overall I don't mind that there are a few different inputs for submission denials. Especially when there are multiple types of subs an opponent can get you with from one position

(i.e. they can get you in a triangle; or a guilliotine; from guard; i like that you need to KNOW which one it is, and deny appropriately)

that said...some of the 'tells' aren't that obvious lol

Perhaps an addition to practice mode would be 'advanced submission specialist' so you can focus 100% on fighting a BJJ specialist?

I guess Advance Grappling setting for practice mode DOES try to sub you sometimes...just seems that the 'rare' subs ... well .. computer doesn't really go for them very often haha which isn't a bad thing necessarily! But for someone trying to learn the basics, pretty tough to figure it out without tons of practice and help of these forums

Re: Trickiest Sub Attempts To Deny

I do practice mode against no ai, where the opponent just stands there. For the submissions you deny the same direction opponent inputs to apply submission.

If you go to practice mode and clinch against other fighter that's not doing anything you can just try and learn what direction you input for the submissions, so when someone applies that you just deny in same direction.

One thing that helped with my submission denials is using caf. I make caf with every submission, and then use him/her to throw submissions in practice mode. I have multiple controllers, so in practice mode I spam submissions with one fighter while denying the attempts with the second controller.
