Holding Side Control

What are the tells for blocking transitions? I've always been able to hold top mount much easier. I can hold side control okay but my brain ****s up sometimes because it's not as intuitive as top mount. Like when they try to go to sprawl my brain always tells me the wrong way to block. How do you guys do it? Are you looking for a certain movement from an arm or something?

Re: Holding Side Control

Some times the transition to sprawl is hard to block because of the momentum transition advantage. But usually I just try to read the opponent. Like usually they're try to sprawl after being denied half guard. I just gotta anticipate that.

Re: Holding Side Control

I watch their knees when in dominant sc. Doing that even helps me block the repeated sprawl fakes, too. But sometimes my brain doesn't act right and they escape lol.
