You have to literally guess and deny before you even see any animation.

I suck and held multiple opponents in side control in division 5 as long as I wanted yesterday.

Very frequently lately commentators have said fighters prefer half guard for striking and setting up subs. I think only fighters with crazy side control should be elite bjj, probably no more than 5 on roster

1 millisecond, like a 1000 Hertz? Human eye can't tell any difference over 60 hertz.
