Do you need a connection to EA servers to play the beta?

I think the ps plus or gold membership is just to play online. You should still be able to play practice or fight now once you're connected to the servers.

Yh a persistent connection to the EA servers right? If you don't have gold or ps plus you'll still be able to connect to the servers i'm sure. Just won't be able to do quick fight online?

Either way im getting plus for the fact that I dont wanna risk missing out on this early experience if i get in. Tomorrow i'm taking off.

It then says that a Playstation Plus membership is required, though. You'd need to be on Plus and always be connected to the servers.
