    HUDless Submissions

I would like submissions to have no giant HUD minigame overlay. It's rather disjointed from the other finishes.

The mechanic itself is fine and can be used to advance or deny submission attempts based on visual cues from the fighters themselves like in striking.

It can be incorporated into something like a grip meter which can be loosened or tightened based on transitions and strikes.

I liked the hud in UFC 2. I really didn't have any problems enjoying the submission animation.

I kind of like the mini-game because I kind of zone out and enjoy the animations while my thumbs are doing tasks that take almost no thought. It sounds weird, but it's kind of difficult for me to enjoy the animations if my mind is too focused on a task.

There isn't anything wrong with the HUDs design. It's the minigame aspect. If it were replaced with visual cues from the fighters it would feel more freeform like striking.

Right now it makes you watch the HUD rather than focus on the movements of the fighters.

When I stopped focusing on the HUD my submission offense got crazy good. I don't really watch the mini game, at least in UFC 2. In UFC 3 beta the mini game is pretty in your face

          It's separate from striking.

It's like if you would have to be paused at every striking exchange and watch preset animations of the outcomes like the submission minigame.

Instead we can keep the same mechanic but replace the overlay with a grip meter. The advances and denials can be guaged based on visual cues from movement like in striking.

If it was going to hudless I think I'd rather have it transition based with the ability to throw strikes during submissions

That's what I am suggesting, agreed.

                What's a grip meter for?

It's basically the old overlay condensed into the already present Dynamic HUD.

It would determine how much movement and damage you can do grappling like striking.

Advancing transitions or landing strikes can replenish your grip while denials and strikes received can deplete it.

Basically grappling stamina. Emptying it results in submissions like standing KDs, KOs, and GNP.

Makes a lot of sense when you break it down like that.

The various gates can be like grounded rocked states. So being in a submission will feel dangerous and the initiative to escape is imminent.

I always hated hud based minigames it takes me out of the immersion I wished instead it was a sweet spot vibration based mechanic where the attacker tries to find vibration using one of the analog sticks n the defender tries to avoid it

The hud and mechanics need to go back to how they were in 2 IMO.
