Career rivalries
Many have voiced a complaint with having the same rival. I want to mention another issue I have with it, as well as a possible solution for the next iteration of the game.
I do not like the idea that the rival acts as a “checkpoint” of sorts. For example, my career at lightweight I can’t break into the top 15 unless I beat Marc Diakese. Training was good, hype high, and then in the fight I suffered a brutal ko. That should end the rivalry. He won, done deal. But then he stays as my rival and I have to go through another 4 fights to get back to a fight with him in order to break the top 15. I don’t like that he is stuck as my rival and that it’s like set in stone that’s I only break the top of I beat only him. The rivalry should end with either a win or loss. It feels less like a rivalry and more like a checkpoint I have to reach in order to continue the career.
I would like to suggest maybe an alternative. If you lose, then you drop and your rival moves on with their career. You either get new rival or you just fight your way back but the rivalry itself ends. Maybe you can eventually fight him again when you’re in the top 10 but you don’t immediately get to fight him again after 3 more fights. This would add more depth and maybe a story to it (for example Diakese was my only loss in the ufc). So instead of forcing me to have 3 fights then avenge it, I would like to see his career continue and mine continue and maybe avenge that loss in the future or for the title or something to that extent. What do y’all think of that?
