The reason I made this topic is because some of game’s mechanics exist for balance purposes. I do believe that realism= balance but the game will never be completely realistic so some executive decisions have to be made.

I’m just curious how others view things

Thai clinch auto break when you rock with a knee.
The guard recovering so fast after being broken.
Health recovering so fast after a rock.
TDD being OP.
Hard combos not draining extra stamina.

That’s off the top of my head.

The unrealistic part is how easy it is to catch them, but that seems like an unintended consequence that needs tweaking rather than a deliberate balancing decision..

Practicality. Though I prefer proper head tracking and what not, from a developers standpoint, this seems easier to do.

Again, practical limitations. Animations to follow up are needed and given the almost unlimited amount of ways fighters jump on each other, implementing a follow up feature isn't something you can just throw in casually.

I haven't really seen this. The slowdown seems good to me. So does the power drop-off.

This is a balancing issue, I agree. But it's only necessary because the clinch system is super unrealistic to begin with. Not breaking the thai clinch after a rock wouldn't be more or less realistic. It's a bit of a side-grade in terms of realism.

Again, I don't see how that's favoring balance over realism, because it doesn't really affect balance. It's just unrealistic.

That's actually imbalanced..

Is that more balanced than having the proper stamina drainage? Or just unrealistic..

Like I said, I think that's less about balance and more about trying to make it appealing to more people or being unable to properly translate certain aspects to a video game..

I dont want to influence any answer so i’ll wait for a few posts before joining the discussion.
As weird as it may sound, coming from me: realism first. The thing is that I rarely think realism opposes balance. DJ might be the only clear case of this, atm.

Not getting into the discussion of whether or not all those are problems, do you really think all of them are causes by an attempt to prioritize balance over realism?

That's made worse by stats mattering more on the ground too, like being on the feet with McGregor as Khabib feels way less helpless than being on the ground with Khabib as McGregor, despite similar (maybe the same?) overall differences.
