Only reason I don't jump on that idea is that I really think a power strike should have longer windup, and you can't do that with a press and hold input.

You'd need a modifier.

Could we go with press and hold but have longer recovery for power shots?

Yes.

But I don't think it's a good option without the increased execution frames.

This can be easily fixed by not making the fighter throw the strike till the button is released.
In RL power punches are often faster and more powerful than weak soft punches without power in them so there is no problem in execution punches as a powerful strike will be allways faster than a weaker one

But then you are introducing input lag of up to one frame. Once the button is pressed, you have to wait one frame to see if it's released, or still pressed. Right now the strike starts on the frame it's pressed.

Its only normal powerful strikes need more time.
Even in RL you need a bit more time charging and preparing to throw that heavy powerful strike compared to normal punches that come out easily.Id say to leave normal punches as they are and make the powerful ones take more frames

Re: Power Punching Modifier

It would be awesome knocking someone out with a charged powerful punch in one strike
Even if there is the risk of getting caught while it charges

Re: Power Punching Modifier

Again, there doesn't seem to be a problem in FIFA with the input lag of powering up a long pass vs a quick short pass. also you are vulnerable to being tackled while you're powering it up. it works very smoothly. but of course it's not exactly the same thing as in a fighting game.

To be honest though I'm not very thrilled about discussing fixing the striking further more while the wrestling and ground aspect is still lightyears behind.

I'm just curious, whats your overall thoughts on the idea of adding a power modifier to general strikes? How do you think that would effect the meta of the game?

Even tho it could have increased stamina tax and only apply to standing shots?

I think it’d be an amazing addition. Plus think of the endless possibilities with the AI offline. Guys like AJ would put extra power on all of their shots while someone like Bisping can pepper you.

I flip flop on the idea daily because I think it would add a lot to the game, but the thought of two people pressing hook at the same time, one guy holding for power, the other not, and having them land on the same frame, makes me hold off for now.

There are more pressing problems at the moment, so I guess I'm interested in what others think of this one issue.
