I usually tag em with a knee to the body or sneak in a quick elbow, granted the fighter has them. If they are coming in close with the body shots, those two work well most times.

Probing jabs, uppercuts and back lunges are usually what I use to counter body shots.

As an offline player, I’m one of those folks who don’t like the adjustment that slowed body shots.

The AI is particularly good at countering them using the above-mentioned techniques, and starting a combo with a body shot is very difficult as a result. Can only use in combinations starting with strikes to the head

I find that with the back lunge, they still catch up to you using the lead body hook and punish you for the stamina used on the lunge.

Honestly, I think this is a footwork issue.

Footwork is the main line of defense in MMA, and during most fights, guys simply backpedal or move quickly side-to-side to get out of the way of punches. The advanced lunges available in the game aren’t enough.

This lack of footwork is the primary reason for the inside fighting issue and body spam. Personally, I suggest weathering the storm (body punch spam) for the time being and wait for the next couple patches. There might be some updates to the footwork that will solve this issue.

Keep in mind this is wishful thinking, but you never know.

Footwork doesn't really work in this game. People can just glue themselves to your face if they want to.

If you sidestep, you get wrecked by hooks, so it isn't worth the risk.
If you move back, you end up pinned against the cage.
If you try to strike out of range...well...nothing happens, you're still stuck with someone glued to you.

This is the biggest problem with the game other than combo spamming imo.
