Re: Comic Book Fans....

I'm almost done with the first volume of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and about 1/3 of the way through the first volume of JMS run on The Amazing Spider-Man.

It's pretty cool to watch the turtles evolve gradually in the art as well as the characterizations themselves. Early on some things are set for the long-run (Raph's brash anger and Leo's unflinching leadership and loyalty), but it's interesting to see everything so raw. There's an issue where Raphael seems to be more inline with Mikey (who is still a relatively straight character) as he's showboating and gloating in a couple action sequences. I'm a little bit surprised by how quickly things have moved early on. The aliens are brought in with a quickness as The Shredder is "dealt with" early on and then of course inter-dimensional travel gets involved.

Also, Casey Jones is a ****ing psycho.

Spider-Man has been great. A good jumping on point that isn't a reboot or wastes time for origin expositions. The volume covers some pretty heavy ****, too. Peter/Spider-Man foils a school shooting. There's a resolution involving domestic abuse. The attack on the World Trade Center. I've been pleasantly surprised how morally heavy the story has been so far. The internal struggle of Peter is to be expected and I love the thought of him teaching a high school science class, but weaving those in with the greater scope of the world's current events is fantastic. It makes the character (and series) seem bigger than what he is normally portrayed as they reach out past the scope of the personal struggles to incorporate the bigger world he's living in.

Re: Comic Book Fans....

For anyone that read Dark Knights, The Batman Who Laughs is coming back in a miniseries starting in November.

It's gonna be Batman vs BWL and his new partner, a Batman from the Dark Multiverse named Artillery Bats (in his universe, he shot Joe Chill after Chill shot his parents).

"looks at image and groans" Well at least it's a different reality.

Anywho i'm still chugging away on my great Batman history reread. (I don't know what I plan to be my cut-off date probably OYL but that's years from now in my reading) Right now i'm in (cover date) November 1981 so i'm in Gerry Conway's 2nd stint with the character right now. Some pretty interesting reading too.

The rebooted Justice League Dark along with The Witching Hour crossover have been really good reads so far.

Re: Comic Book Fans....

The new big DC event Heroes in Crisis is a good read so far.

Some really unexpected deaths in the first issue. At least I'm assuming they're dead.

Wanna spoiler that info to me or better yet just send a PM if you want.

Sounds like i might have to get back into the current product at least on the DC side.

I'm not sure who the killer is (obviously because there's been one issue) but so far...

Spoiler

Again, I'm only pretty sure they're dead.

Writer says they're dead, dead. Which means nothing.
