Movie 43. Strange movie. I don't know how they got all of those celebrities to be in this movie. Just an odd film.

Watched The Master last night. Movie was good, not great, though there were certainly great parts/scenes in it. And Joaquin Phoenix was phenomenal.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Damn, my last reviews were a victim of the hack this weekend (see Steve's Forum 'Posts Missing' thread...details forthcoming).

Well, let me sum up those reviews.

Jarhead

Pretty good, I guess. Don't care if I never see it again.

World War Z

Pretty decent for a zombie movie...but I still think zombie movies are dumb.

The Addams Family - This is a weird plot, but one I can totally see as being conjured up by a late 50s sitcom especially with the ridiculous twist at the end that is only discovered by a shot a lightning to the head. The cast is good, but so well that you don't really even see them as performances. Christina Ricci steals the show, though. And the "play" the kids perform is amazing.

I'm sure you know this but the Addams Family is based on the Charles Addams comic strip which had a warped sense of humor most of the time. It's amazing how the TV show and the movies have pushed that so far out of public awareness to be its own thing.

Knew it was a comic, but never really read any of them. For some reason the TV show gets eclipsed by The Munsters for me.

I would thumbs down you if I could.

Munsters = corny, cheesy, campy, grade school appeal humor
Addams Family = offbeat, out-there, wacky, left field humor

But then again, I think they had this argument on "Cheers" once!

Actually disliked the AF movies very much.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Again, not a movie, but I got around to seeing Season 1 of Homeland.

Awesome, across the board. Plot, acting, writing, you name it. I'd put it up there with any individual season of any TV series I've ever seen, Breaking Bad included. I thought certain elements of the plot were revealed too quickly (I thought the CIA agent/Brody cat-and-mouse game would get extended a bit more, but it wasn't).

Season 2 got a 96 rating on Metacritic though, so obviously the writers know what they're doing.
