Looking to dust off NFL 2K5 and play it again

I'll admit, I've been playing Madden for the last couple of months but now I think it's time for a new experience. It's been fun playing Madden BUT also frustrating with the lack of penalities and lack of punt/kickoff returns.

I'm looking to go back to NFL 2K5 but the things that really ticked me off about this game when it first came out was the low QB percentages, the jacked up franchise mode and lack of offside penalties.

Now just to let you know that I'm a coach mode only guy and another thing that bothered me was the inability to move players in motion. BUT that doesn't bug me as much as the low QB completion percentage and the broken franchise mode.

Was wondering if anyone had any great slider setting for coach mode? I also was looking at Bill Abner's franchise mode house rules. Has anyone enjoyed playing the game like this? Thanks.

If you are frustrated by lack of punt/kickoff returns in Madden, then you will blow up because the special teams in ESPN is horrible. That said, I still loved this game and may dust it off as well since it has gotten zero playing time due to Halo2 and College Hoops.

It's really not as bad as Madden. I did play this game in September and I did get a couple of yards on punt returns. Mind you, I didn't take one to the house but it's better than Madden's where you get about 5 yards tops on punt returns.

It seems like with adjusted sliders you can get a realistic punt return game whereas in Madden no matter what sliders you have you won't get any punt returns. Even if you got a guy like Dante Hall.

Some people are having success with runbacks. There are threads here on the subject I’m sure. And some people are saying Coach Mode is playable with sliders adjustments only, so check the sliders threads.

Others like me say the only way to get Coach Mode to work is by editing certain player ratings. If you’re interested, I can post a few suggestions – some of my own and some others from people here – regarding specific edits. And they do work. I got my CPU/Coach QB’s hitting 65% on a regular basis, along with plenty of 100 yard per game HB performances. It just takes some ratings tweaking.

And if you have Finn’s editor and Action Replay, you can edit ratings in franchise as you go. But if you don’t, I suppose all of this it isn’t going to do you any good if you planning a franchise.

Actually, I don't think Madden is bad. In head to head games, I've had 2 kickoffs returned on me in 3 games. Never had a kickoff returned on me in head to head games on ESPN in 30 games.

Re: Looking to dust off NFL 2K5 and play it again

i just had friend return a punt on me last night head to head. we have played 20+ times recently and have realistic returns. the key is always getting the last block you need to spring you. he skipped around the first two guys, hurdled thru a narrow opening and then found a wall and outran everyone.

the very next kickoff return for me i made it to the 48. the next game i thought i had the wall and saw only the kicker when off the screen a guy who stayed in his lane came out of nowhere (literally) and nailed me.

the more you play around with returns the better you get. stop and starting, juking and cutbacks really work.

it does help with head to head when the human takes control of the cpu player and takes him out of the play. its like having 12 or more players on your return team.
