This effect Microsoft , and Sony as well, both companies have worked for two years to make there product able to compete with EA and Sega if they would at least threaten to Drop EA maybe something could be done.

This is never going to happen in a million years, simply because they both need Madden for the release of their own next-gen consoles.

Re: Wish Microsoft, Sony would threaten to drop EA Sports.

I may be mistaken but I don't believe Microsoft or Sony can "drop" EA Sports because anyone can make software for a console. Although the software does have to be approved by Microsoft or Sony I don't think they can dissaprove software unless it has nudity, vulgarity and etc.

The reason I believe this to be is because I remember back in the Atari age when a bunch of disgruntled Atari programmers quit Atari and started their own company called Activision and proceeded to beat Atari in alot of areas. Atari tried to put a legal stop to them from publishing the software but was ruled against.

Also on another front back in the day when VCR's came out some people started putting out porn tapes and some manufacturers of VCR's were unhappy with that and tried to stop it but the courts ruled that although they created the product once that a consumer bought it then they owned the product and could use it how they saw fit.

So bottom line, unless Microsoft or Sony could prove that EA's games somehow harm their reputation, the reputation of the console, are obscene or have no socially redeeming value I don't think they could legally block their games even if they wanted to.

If Sony and EA Sports sign an exlusive deal, say goodbye to the Xbox 2.

I agree but that won't happen for the same reason it didn't happen on PS2 and Xbox.......EA makes far more money if it distributes it's product to maximum market share and there would still be alot of people buying both consoles for various titles.

That's what I've been thinking. It won't be the end of XBox2, but it'd be a huge blow. We know EA's in bed w/Sony already; now there's no motivation for EA to develop for XBox2.

Nah, thats not true. Console makes have total say over who can make games for them. The Atari fiasco is the exact reason why the industry works that way now.
