playmakers is the way to go

after sleeping on this, i realize the best, maybe only, way to compete is to create a football game with an edge. some have suggested a playmakers type game and that would work. there have been many suggestions already but maybe we could put them all on one page for VC to read over. include how it could be implemented if possible.

the game should include things the nfl does not want shown like drug tests, illegal hits and suspensions. the drug test could be an easy addition. the cpu just selects players at random times to be on various drugs, and then at regular times have drug tests slecting random players. if the cpu selects the player, he is punished accordingly. if not, you escape.

VC started the chemistry feature in nba. use a form of that here but expanded. the player mood could be affected by gameplay, drug addiction, other legal troubles could creeping in and even a players homelife could affect his mood.

holdouts have been in games before, but they never felt like a holdout. the mood should dictate that some hold out no matter what. ala, keenan mccardell. again, this was done to an extent when trying to sign players in MLB 2k4. put a TO situation where he wont go where he is traded. have players quit trying hard after a contract year. heck, every once in a while have a random shocking retirement, ala ricky williams or barry sanders.

the owners could take over the team and make decisions that affect what is done. VC has done this to an extent in MLB series. "manning must start" type of orders.

the confidence meter of mlb could be implemented at major positions. QB in particular.

if a player was on drugs, his attributes could take a hit. maybe not all, but if his awareness went down but his energy went up, you could have the difficult choice of whether to play him or not. or you could have an anger attribute and if you arent careful he starts getting unneccasary roughness at bad times.

add hit out of bounds and other unsportsmanlike penalties. taunting etc.

the player chatter could be brutal if they wanted.

this could be awesome. i think they may need to have a toned down version or option, also for kids and those who want the edge but not too much edge.

Blitz has the Playmakers name, but the idea can still be done with SEGA.

Hey Radja!!

This is precisely what Sega needs to do. The NFL is an 800lb. Nanny with hair on her back. They like to point their hairy finger at us and exclaim, 'YOU can't have late hits in your game because that is not the image the NFL wishes to project in its video games.'

Oh really? That's why you have players going to court for cases of murder, paternity suits, and even fist fights before the game even starts? (Browns vs. Steelers) The 'Playmaker Approach' could prove very profitable. As long as we could customize our own games to resemble the look of the NFL, but at the same time, keep the bruatality of the NFL.

Not really...when ESPN canned the show, they lost all rights to it. Midway just announced Blitz: Playmakers today too.

Radja,

Those are some great ideas man. The thing you have to worry about though is that if you go that far into the gritty reality of pro football, VC may be killing any chances of hooking back up with the NFL after the 5 year contract is up. The same way NFL held a grudge against MIdway for their depiction of the game, this same attitude could be directed towards VC possibly killing any chance of a reunion with the NFL License.

I will purchase whatever football title VC puts out next year real names or not.

"Additional modes that have been confirmed so far are complete customization of teams, players, stadiums, and more."

Hopefully that answers any questions about SEGA doing the same in ESPN 2k6.

Re: playmakers is the way to go

So you guys are telling me you want to turn a quality simulation football game like 2K5 into a suped-up "NFL Blitz" type game? But more-so with suspensions, late hits, and drug tests?

Come on...seriously. If you want A game like that...fine. But not from the makers who are capable of using their time to churn out quality games like 2K5...I'd just rather them make a NCAA Football 2006, and I don't even like college football.
