Make a Generic Game, With an Import Utility

Since VC must've had the rights to the 2005 NFL logos, teams, and players, couldn't they just add an edit and import utility to the generic game, which would allow us to import the 2005 logos, teams, and players to their generic game? This way, VC could say that people were using the 2K5 info (which they had a license for), and the community could update the players, logos, and stadiums to 2k7 ourselves (which they wouldn't have a license for). I'm not a lawyer, but why wouldn't this be legal?

almost certainly not legal- they no longer hold the license to NFL logos, etc

it's the same circumvention argument which doesnt allow 3-2-1 to market DVDxCopy with an encryption break (in the US). You can't provide someone with tools implicitly designed to break this license

Then how is it possible for VC and the Walmarts to still sell NFL2K5 in stores, since this game uses the NFL and ESPN, which have new contracts with EA Sports? My idea would be to put out a generic NFL with 32 teams and fake players, but also give us a chance to edit and import VC's teams, players, and stadiums from 2K5 (which VC had a license for). Some team's logos, players, and stadiums have changed since then, so all they are offering is old info. The new data, which they don't have the rights for, could be edited and imported from the internet.

It would not be implicitly designed to break the liscense. it would be designed for the user to custimize uniforms and import images into the game. that has been done before, its no big deal.

on another note, if the code for the game was easy to crack ....um.... some talented fan.....would make a utility on his own in no time. he'd find images form the internet of NFL logos, make some nice uni's for his own personal XBOX 360. VC would have no part in it.
fan sites and sports sites have millions of nfl logo's all over the net, some gaming fane site may have a colection of logos that just hapen to work perfectly within the games perameters.
I dont know if its still up and running, but there used to be an NBA live website were the PC version had some NICE mods. the fans re-did the players faces, made their own jerseys, custom courts, I remeber an all black Chicago bulls Court i downloaded. and often times the player faces and Jerseys were done better than the ones EA had in the game.

EDIT: found it, www.nba-live.com
check out whats been done in the past years with NBA live, they even have an EA graphics editor on the site. they patch iniforms, courts, player faces, they even do ball patches. its PC based, but todays consoles are bridging the gap, see Finn's editor.
