This year's jaguars defensive ratings

I have a question about the Jags D.
They are rated highly but in real life the pass D is horrible.
which players should be downgraded to be more realistic?
thanks

Re: This year's jaguars defensive ratings

Well, Sammy Knight is aging and Reggie Nelson is only a rookie. After the starting four there is little depth for this team.

Re: This year's jaguars defensive ratings

While he is still a good run-stopper, Sammy Knight cannot cover a chair anymore. Mathis is one of the top corners in the league. They are missing a first-year starter to injury @ FS in Sensabaugh, so you could dip rookie replacement Reggie Nelson-- he has more natural ability but the standard long rookie learning curve.

IMO, stats are not always indicative of personnel however-- scheme, matchups, general coaching, etc are all factors. For example the Raiders are top-5 in rushing yds... while Fargas is good, you probably don't want to crank him up to 95 OVR. If you look across the league at the attributes, OAK doesn't have a top-5 running back... and their upgrades from one of the worst o-lines in history were Cooper Carlisle & Jeremy Newberry-- good zone blockers but just one pro bowl b/w them.

Remember the Colts @ week 8 last year were on pace to be the absolute worst rushing defense in history... they didn't even finish the season worst in the league however (woeful Jets did). And they didn't even need to wait for the offseason changes to step it up. When the playoffs arrived they went into lockdown mode (Bob Sanders played the first 7 games btw so it wasn't just him)

DFB:
am i correct that you are you saying you nudge sliders up & down on a game-by-game basis determined by you/your opponent's strengths & weaknesses?

if so that's pretty cool & something i may experiment with

Re: This year's jaguars defensive ratings

hehe....no, no nudgies here. But there was the team dependent sliders done last year I believe, though moreso for run vs. pass.

jordan I would say try something like looking at the current team defense stats for the year and come up with a slider system for the cpu vs. human. The problem with changing around player ratings is that once you do, you're committing problems (or enhancements) to a new team should they change, especially during the year. Then, you're spending more time tweaking around then actually playing.
