Re: User Control on Defense

For our league we have house rules, and one is you must control a saftey before the snap, once the play has developed then it's fair game. Like you guys said it is really easy to be a defensive lineman and if you don't sack the qb you'll still put enough pressure on the qb to force him into an errant pass. Plus saftey provides a good challenge, you got the TE one on one, the wr's, and you can also stop the run.

Re: User Control on Defense

I always play as DT but I also give myself a few house rules.

1) I always pick the worst of the two DT (unless it's a 3-4 defense).

2) I'm not allowed to move before the snap.

3) Unless it's an obvious passing situation (i.e. 3rd and long) I always think run first, by watching the running-back and trying to close the hole his O-linemen are creating for him. (swim moves etc are not allowed).

4) I'm allowed to use the swim moves etc during an obvious passing situation, but I can only use it once during that particular play.

These house rules give me realistic stats for my DT and thus it's very satisfying when you make a tackle/sack. I only play DT on NFL 2K4 (as I find playing DT on NFL 2K5 just too easy, even with the house rules).

Re: User Control on Defense

I dunno. I enjoy sacking the living crap out of the other QB. But I like to play all the top-tier QB's too. So, if they don't get the ball out of there fast enough, too bad.

I never could stand the AI in Madden where you had less than a second to get off any pass and the computer could take anywhere from 6-10 seconds to throw the ball. Trust me, I counted. I'm no "cheeser" when it comes to playing QB. I drop back and throw passes in time to the open man. So if the game can blitz the crap out of me no matter how many 1-3 step drops I do, then I'm returning the favor. heh heh.

Plus, if it ever felt too easy I'd just adjust the sliders.
