    NFL2k5 review

I was just browsing some stuff and feeling very nostalgic. I stumbled on this at gamespot and it reminded me how a real football game should be. Watching this made me so depressed, because it reminds me how far football gaming has regressed in the "madden only" era. Nearly 5 years later, and Madden football still has not even scratched the surface of this game. That's just unbearable.

    Re: NFL2k5 review

I watched the 2K5 vs Madden video review and those guys are morons. Do they even play the games???

    1) Defensively, the ESPN guy said that there's no hit stick like there is in Madden. WTF is he talking about??? Power up and hit the Right analog and smack!!! Or power up and press the tackle button for a wrapup tackle. They dont even talk about the gang tackling at all. And you can blitz in 2K5 with a player who's not designed to blitz. Control him and press the R analog button and watch him go after the QB. There's some DB issues in 2K5 but im sure there's some in Madden too.

    2) Sound / commentary. The ESPN guy says that they're both crappy. Again, did these even play the two games??? 2K5's commentary crushes Madden. Michaels is okay but Madden is beyond horrible and while 2K5 has two fake commentators, they're both better than M&M which is beyond sad. Plus, I dont think there's ever been a football game that received praise by havng real commentators.

    3) Presentation. There's no presentation in Madden whatsoever. Enough said but I'll continue anyway. The ESPN guy doesnt even mention the Super Bowl atmosphere at all which is surprising to me because it doesnt feel like just another regular season game. In every aspect, the presentation blows away Madden. And the guy didnt even mention the awesome weekly wrapup.

    4) Features. 2K5 won which it should have. The Crib sucks but VIP is still the best damn feature ever and FPF is still the most realistic way to play a football game. The guy didnt even mention the ESPN 25th anniversary section which was a surprise even though I personally dont like it. The custom soundtracks and selecting your TD celebrations are awesome though. The celebrations would have been better if they would have put some "exclusive" T.O. celebrations like signing the football after taking a sharpie out of his sock or runnin to the star in DAL. Man, I wish those existed.

    5) Overall, the only area that Madden has ever or will ever win is in franchise mode. Yeah, it's damn good but sadly, the rest of the game is so boring, repetitive and just blah, that it doesnt even matter and this is coming from a franchise guy.

UGH. I've got to stop visiting GS and IGN because seriously, they all just piss me off with their stupidity. I wish GameFan still existed but oh well.

Please......Gamespot is the same site that ranked Madden 08 "The first great next-gen Madden" and gave it an 8.0 review.
So I wonder why my Madden 08 is a coaster?

All I know is that I've rented every Madden since 05' and in 05' I obviously went with 2K5. In 06 - 09 Madden obviously hasn't done anything to sway my decision. Sad. Very sad. In 4 years they can't come up with anything at all better in any way than a game for a last-gen system from 4 years ago.

What is the big deal about presentation? After 1 or 2 games we all are going to press the button to skip through it. So what's the point?

I don't know why i never picked this game up in the beginning. Seems like what Madden is implementing right now, it was already there in 2k5. Madden hasn't impressed me much since 05. I will only get Madden if I see 10's in all reviews and everybody is raving about it. Until then, EA won't be seeing my money. Not like they care anyways, but its 60 bucks less they get.

Atleast in 2k, you had the option to enjoy great presentation.

Um, the part where you're actually playing the game, and it looks way better than Madden, that's part of the 'presentation' also.

Now, I'll go for the obvious attack. I actually watch most of the cutscenes.

I always move the R analog stick down when getting ready to smack the guy and it always works. Oh well, either way.

WOW!!! I'm sorry but there's no way in hell that I could play a football game without a halftime show, post game show or the awesome presentation that's in the SB. The reason why is simple - the presentation gets you into the game even more than you already are and makes you feel like you're actually there playing in the game itself. No way in hell could I ever play a football game without the awesome presentation that's in 2K5.

Madden feels so blah. EA purchased the ESPN license just so they could take it away from the other sports games from 2K. I'll be shocked if EA ever uses it as much as VC did with 2K5.

Whoa, really!?! I need to take a minute to read the 196 pg. in-game manual.

(Yet another thing the other game doesn't have 4 yrs. later, or at least not as in depth)

sorry, there's nothing like the hitstick for madden... I also remember buying both Madden 05 and 2k5 the year they came out. Madden had more energy imo.

NFL 2K5 has something similar to a hit stick - you charge up your linebacker or whoever you're using and then when you go to tackle them, I feel there is more power in the hit.
