I personally think that it's better to play 2K5 on the original Xbox for a handful of reasons.

1) 2K5's game engine was programmed and designed for Xbox (and then ported over to PS2).

2) I dont own a 360 but there's not going to be any difference graphics wise because again, the game was done for the original Xbox.

3) It's much quicker and easier to transfer roster and franchise files to and from your PC using the original Xbox and the Action Replay.

4) I may be wrong on this but I actually purchased an Xport for 360 after 2K5 went backwards compatible but decided against buying 360 because from what I read, you have to remove the 360's hard drive in order to transfer the files on to it and that if you dont know what you're doing (which I never do, lol), you can screw up the 360's hard drive.

5) While the controllers are the same, if you plan on playing 2K5 a LOT, then why waste extra money on batteries for the 360 controller when you can use that money to buy the Action Replay instead.

Regarding the Xbox Live account -

It's not required for rosters or to use Finn's edior. The main thing is that if you can get on Live on your original Xbox and go online with 2K5, it will download the update which solves the clipping penalty glitch on offensive/defensive plays even though it still exists on punt returns but im more concerned about my RB's stats than the PR.

Regarding Finn's editor -

No, you dont need it to download or transfer rosters but trust me, you will want it because Finn's editor allows you to do so many things that cant be done in-game. In fact, if it wasnt for his edior, we wouldnt be having this conversation because there wouldnt be any updated rosters, schedules, coaches, etc. I owned 2K5 on PS2 and purchased a brand new and factory sealed Xbox, a laptop, AR and 2K5 just so I could use Finn's editor. The only positive that I would give the PS2 version is that the controller is perfect but that's a minor complaint considering all the huge positives you get by using Finn's editor.

Finn's editor also supports the PS2 version of 2K5 but im not sure if the update that fixes the clipping penalty is available on PS2. Also, if you dont have the HDD for PS2, you'll only get photos of highlights instead of actual video highlights and trust me, there's a difference.

Overall, the Xbox is the best and easiest version of 2K5 in my opinion.

Hope this helps and welcome to the 2K5 forums.
Dan,

Thanks for all the great info. Is there anywhere that you can show me that gives instructions on how to download the rosters using the Action Replay?

Also, where can I pick that up from?

Thanks in advance.

Re: NOOB QUESTION ABOUT ROSTERS

itbeme23..so true..its NFL2k9 for me..

I might have to investigate the Finn editor, as I'm a roster editing fool, and I remember having to do a ton of editing on original rosters )Even w/Interception slider set to 0, there we still too many int, and I know the WR catching slider had to be maxed out for the drops.

Then again, I might just see how this franchise file I downloaded pans out. Kinda sick of editing rosters at this point.

THese guys did ALOT of work, I couldnt believe the "Years Pro" overlays are correct, like Kellen Winslow was a 4 year pro.

I really dont know how the announcer is saying "Tony Romo". He wasnt in game, it was Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson and Drew Hensen on Cowboys.

Happy though. I had played Madden09 on PS2 too, and guess what, boredom set in too. I'm done w/EA football.

Romo was an undrafted free agent in 2003 and was signed by DAL. He was already in his second season with DAL in 2004 even though he was the third stringer. Whoever the person was that decided to add Romo's full name play by play into the game was smart because they knew he would one day become the franchise QB where as Drew Henson sucked and didnt have his full name play by play in the game. Haha.

And EVERYONE who creates rosters (whether it be from scratch or using someone else's as a base) put a lot of time and effort into what they're doing. Hell, we all do a lot more every year than what EA's done in four years.

Re: NOOB QUESTION ABOUT ROSTERS

you're right Dan. EA has really fumbled for the last 4 years.

I just wish there was a Finn Editor for MAC.

Yeah, Henson did stink. Did you know that EA has him as Free Agent in Head Coach 09 and has the wrong picture (hes shown as a black QB) - EA can even get that right.

You can buy the Action Replay off ebay or the codejunkies website. Make sure that it includes the disc, 8MB memory card and attachment cord. I suggest buying it new. The disc will allow you to install the AR program.

Rosters are easy to download. Go to the rosters section here and the ones that have a paper clip to the right of the topic subject contains files. Sometimes, other files will be in the topic like wordpad documents or excel documents but the majority of them are .zip files which are the ones you need for Xbox.

Click on one of them and it will ask you if you want to open or save the file. Save the file and when it finishes downloading, it will appear where you saved it. I suggest saving it on the desktop as it makes the process a lot quicker and easier.

For transferring files from your PC to the AR -

First, connect the memory card to the cord attachment and then to the USB port on your computer.

Second, open up the AR program via the icon located on your desktop.

Third, you simply "drag" the roster file into the column on the left that says "memory card". After it's done saving onto the memory card, you close the program.

Fourth, you remove the AR from the USB port.

Fifth, you remove the memory card from the attachment cord.

Sixth, you put the memory card into your Xbox controller, load up the file in-game and you're good to play.

For transferring files from your AR to your PC -

First, make sure that the file you want to transfer is saved on the AR memory card.

Second, connect the memory card to the cord attachment and then to the USB port on your computer.

Third, open up the AR program via the icon located on your desktop.

Fourth, click on the "+" sign that's located on the left column that says memory card. It will show the files you have saved on the memory card. Hold the cursor over the file that you want to put on your PC and drag it to the middle column that says "PC database". It will transfer the file. When done, close the program.

Fifth, go to your program files folder and find the one that says "Datel". Open it and then click on the folder that says "Action Replay Xbox". Next, click on the folder that says "Saves". Copy the file you want and paste it on your desktop.

You will only need to transfer files from your AR to your PC if you plan on using Finn's editor for whatever reason (change a player's position, edit a head coach, etc.). Otherwise, only transferring files from your PC to your Xbox is all you need to know now but I do suggest downloading Finn's editor and any roster file and just mess around with it so you can see what can be done in his editor.

Finn's editor -

http://web.tampabay.rr.com/flyingfinn/roster.htm (kick *** editor)

dophin26's website with roster and franchise files -

http://www.nfl2k5rosters.com (kick *** site for 2K5)

Hope all of this helps you out bud. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
