Re: nfl 2k5 on ps3?

The MGS4 bundle was the last PS3 to be made that supported PS2 games.

History of the PS3 w/PS2 games

20\60GB (Launch Models): Full PS2 compability. These systems have both the Emotion Engine (PS2 CPU) and the RSX (PS2 GPU) in them. That's why they get full 100% compability.

80GB MGS4 bundle: RSX was removed, Emotion Engine is still in. These systems still play PS2 games, but there are problems that the 20\60GB models don't have (like slowdown in MGS3).

The 40GB, 80GB and 160GB (aka the current models) have neither the RSX or Emotion Engine, which is why they can't play any PS2 games.

The only way to really get a PS3 that can play PS2 games is to buy one used. It would pure luck to find one new in a store at this point in time. There's a chance Sony made add it back as a software emulator, but the PS2 was a hard system to program for, so writing a fully compatible emulator is going to be tough (they may have to go the MS route and only make certain games work).

Personally, I think they should have just left it in, it was a stupid decision.

Well they don't want you buying ps2 games for half nothing when they can get you to buy full price ps3 titles
