An idea for Sony and 2K re: football

I would like to try and buy the "engine" to APF 2k8 and make it open source. What we should do is collect donations from the members of this site, and other sites, buy the engine from 2k and make it open source. No money is made off of the game, yet anyone can modify it. Is this possible?
