Maybe you or anyone on this thread can tell me what the big deal about Franchise mode is anyway. When I buy a game, I play it primarily to get good at it so that when my boys and I get together, we can have some tough battles. Besides that, I don't play by myself that much. (Married, busy schedule... Married.)

I looove football, but I don't know anything about Cap-ology and all that off-season stuff. Is it really cool? Please express your passions about this Franchise stuff that everyone is raving about so that I can look forward to that mode too.

Where have you been all my life on Operation Sports! I thought I was the only member of this site who actually has human friends that play videogame football! You have come to the right place my friend. Evidently, the pre-requisites of this site are to "..not have friends who play videogames..", "...tired of cheesers online..", "...no time to play humans, yet all the time in the world to run a Franchise"! LOL! That last one was just a friendly shot.

I am spokesperson for that endangered species, the multiplayer gamer. We have a website: www.thexbfl.com. When or IF you get bored with "running" your Franchise, contrary to what the Franchise folks think, there are many, many tough football battles awaiting you online...

Pardon the interruption....

Ha Ha! I hear ya man. Unfortunately I'm not on XBOX LIVE. I've debated it, but I don't even have a computer at home. I'm at work now and probably gonna get fired soon if I don't stay off these boards!

Don't I need a computer to get hooked up to LIVE? My wife and I are kinda broke too, and I'm enjoying my litte 12 dollar cable bill each month, how much is a subscription to LIVE?

Also, yeah, about 4 or 5 other guys and myself get together and have tournaments and stuff. Double eliminations and all that. We used to even give out a trophy to the winner!
I love the interaction with my friends. That's what we do when we old guys have time to hang out.

But I still may try the franchise stuff this year for a change. I haven't even completed an actual season mode in like 6 or 7 YEARS!

P.S.
Man, I just briefly browsed your website. I read your league rules and it sounds great! I love the sportsmanship stuff. I always try to be a good sport and not run up the score or pad my stats.

Hmmm. XBOX LIVE, huh?

I know what you mean, I hope I don't get fired as well! LOL!

That's too bad you don't have XBOX Live. I'm not sure if you need a computer or not for an XBOX Live account, but, I could be wrong. Man, it is so refreshing to hear someone besides myself talk about how fun it is to battle friends in football. If you ever did take the plunge and get XBOX Live, definitely check a league out. We pride our league on being as close to SIM as possible but I'm sure there are other leagues out there with less stringent rules. I'm sure beating up on the CPU is fun and all, but come on man, you know there is nothing like battling with your boys, trash talk galore, then beating your chest after you have beaten them! You beat the CPU, look around the room to celebrate and see no one else but your reflection in the mirror! LOL!

Re: The Franchise Mode Hype

I like playing the (on the field) game more than the off the field aspects. I do however use and like the Franchise mode. I like how you can choose the personnel that ends up on your team.

I like playing my family & friends (online or off) more though. I play my franchise inbetween those games. Playing the CPU isn't as fun as playing human opponents for me because after a while you pretty much know all the CPU tendencies. Besides the CPU doesn't take the chances a human opponent does. Like throwing the bomb 5 or 10 times a game or going for it on 4th & 30 in the first or second quarter

Re: The Franchise Mode Hype

njskillz, I am interested in joining your league. I have XBox live and am willing to give it a shot. I like to play realistic football. I've looked over the rules and find them agreeable. I don't know how good (or bad) I really am because most of my friends play Madden. So whats the deal?

Gooberstabone,

Playing a human opponent is a lot of fun but can become repetitious. most of the people I play against usually pick the same team and same play book. In addition, they usually pick one of the top four or five teams. So I find myself constantly playing the Jets, Raiders, Rams or Buccaneers.

Agreed.

Quote:

In its favor playng human opponents adds the X factor of unexpected play choices on both defense and offense, human error, and human interaction.

Definitely.

Quote:

As a football fan I enjoy reading about teams regarding their in season and out of season progress, trades, free agent acquisitions, injuries, retirements, retention of star players, and cap management. I follow the stats for teams and players during the season.

So do I-- to the extent feasible. I leave my car on sports talk radio.

Quote:

When I play Franchise mode I am able to engage in what I call a fully immersive football experience. Many of the reasons I enjoy real football (stated in the previous paragraph) are found in the Franchise Mode. Teams progress, teams regress, Star players continue their star play, new stars emerge, MVPs, Rookie of the Year, Pivotal games, freak plays, weather effects, short term injuries, long term injuries, winning streaks and losing streaks all occur. These are the elements of franchise mode. Easy games, hard games, run oriented teams, pass oriented teams, defensive teams, offensive teams. These are the elements of franchise mode.

Quote:

The key is, you have a say as to how the season turns out. You are in control. You make trades, sign free agents, replace injured players, draft wisely or foolishly. You retain star players, devise game plans, discover emerging stars, manage the salary cap and play the games. You make the playoffs. You win the superbowl. If You experience success you must maintain it. If you experience failure you must resolve it.

...I hear ya barkin' big dawg.

I Play both Madden 2003 and NFL 2K3. This year I preferred 2K3 over Madden 2003. I played in a Madden league with a group of friends this year and it was enjoyable until some members began to exploit the holes in Madden's programming.

I hate that about Madden.... Every year there is some cheat you can exploit. Or some player **cough** Marshall Faulk **cough** or now Michael Vick is UNSTOPPABLE.

[quote] I played franchise with both games and gradually leaned toward NFL 2K3. I am currently playing a dynasty with Rutgers in NCAA 2003.

I'm surprised. It seems everyone says Madden's franchise is so much better, deeper.

Quote:

The ideal situation would be human league play within franchise mode.

Isn't this possible in ESPN NFL 2k4?

Thanks a lot man, if If this franchise stuff is just like the regular season mode with extras, then I think I'll actually give it a whirl! Nice argument!

I saw some movies of madden 2004 and michael vick tore through the whole bucaneers defense! The two times he played them they held him in check. And on the same movie ray lewis was pushing down offensive lineman like they were dummies and he still got the sack.
