Plus, giving a game a 10 is saying this is as close to the real thing as you will get, but when I see something in the gameplay that says otherwise, I refuse to give it such a score.

Ahh, the debate continues over ESPN and Madden will go on forever.

One quick question. I hated the playcalling screens in the NFL2Ks, are they any different this year. I haven't been following the games that closely this year.

Thanks,
DaHokieBird

Yes, VC went the Madden route with the play calling screen this year.

Well the avg. player in the NFL career lasts til the age of 35 yrs old. There are a few exceptions Jerry Rice, Rich Gannon, Bruce Smith, etc. who are still playing over that age. The NFL is mostly a young dominated field as they catch athletes in their prime. To think that the majority of NFL players today didn't start to play Madden until they got into the NFL is ridiculous. Why do you think that the #1 players of the game are actual NFL players? Why do you think it is so popular among NFL players? Marshall Faulk said last year during his cover year for the game that he been playing Madden since he was in high school, so that tradition is carried over when these players reach the NFL.
It's a honor for them to grace the games cover, so what does that say about Madden as a institution? This definitely contributes to it's popularity & staying power.

It's so frustrating when ESPN players say that Madden players don't understand the game. Even when you say it's just some not all. I mean if you want to debate on which game is more realistic fine. But don't insult my intelligence or any other gamers intelligence by saying that we may not know football because we play Madden. I mean there are many here including myself that play both.

Thanks for going into more detail, because you lost me with the beginning part of your argument (only the stuff i quoted).

I haven't seen an intelligent (non-flaming) EA vs. Sega discussion like this in a while. Kudos to all

Re: Just got the new PSM with football reviews

Then you are in the minority of madden players that do understand REAL x's & o's. Look I'm surrounded by Maddenites in my neighborhood & do you know what's the major complaint when I turn them on to 2k3? It's too hard, too many plays, & no way to master the game. So when I make this statement I can only relate to what I see posted on message boards & my personal experience with Madden players. Like on of them admitted to me "2k is on another level of football" but that Maddens just fit his preference a bit more.

Re: Just got the new PSM with football reviews

I don't put much stock in the theory that football players choose Madden so it must be the sim of choice. Although they actually play the game, when it comes to video games, many of them play it very UNrealistically.
I only played midget league and high school ball growing up, but some of my friends played college and most of them throw bombs all day long or just run all day long. They go for the jugular without any thought of playing a realistic game. To them it's fun. To me I hate it. What's my point again? Oh well you get the idea.
