Is it possible to start some kind of mass e-mail petition to Sega/VC begging them to release the game earlier???

Don't waste your time with it. If they release it early, they release it early. If they don't, they don't.

It all boils down to if the game is done, and when it goes gold.

Sega has an advertising campaign in place. That campaign is ready to launch over the next week or so. It's all centered around an in-store date of 9/3. That's not going to change.

what i find interesting is that someone said over at another board that madden has been bumped up a day

why bump your game by a day if your competitor isn't releasing for another 3 weeks??

could get interesting around aug 13/14
