question about multi-player online...

I'm thinking about getting the PS2 Network Adapter and have a question about playing this game (and other sports games) online.

Is the online only a two player affair?
Me and my home playing against somebody else at their home?

Can you play with two controllers (or more with the multi-tap)
to have a co-operative team vs somebody else online?

Is it possible to play with several different people each at their own home?
I know this is possible with SOCOM and the racing games, but don't know how it works in sports titles.

I have a very good DSL connection and think the online football could be a lot of fun.

With the Xbox version I know you can play with 4 on each console, so I'd assume that's true on PS2 also. You can't hook up against multiple systems though, just one at a time.
