Blocking on Punt Returns - FYI

Okay, for everyone else who has been frustrated with the lack of blocking by your team mates on punt plays !!!!

After watching my player get blasted on 8 straight punt receptions over 2 or 3 games, I decided to try something. Need to get him some time to do something after fielding the punt. This has worked for me on several occasions.

Here's what I have done to improve the blocking:

Before the CPU/Human opponent kicks the ball, get control of the single player that lines up behind your linemen. Run him back toward your punt returner and stay there. Wait for the play to develop and manuever him into the path of the closest would be tackler. He will engage this player and block him long enough for the punt returner to make a move. I have been able to make some decent returns by doing this. Just make sure you break away from the other tacklers that are breathing down your jock strap.

Believe me, this works and is by no means a glitch or a money play. It only gives you a fair chance to gain some yardage taking away the CPU's unfair advantage.

Re: Blocking on Punt Returns - FYI

WTF are people talking about with the punt return blocking. People watch a real game so you can see just how little blocking there is to begin with cuz 1-2 defenders will always be within 5-7 yards of you. Don't be expecting to return for + yards everytime cuz for one if the ball has big hangtime in the air you need to call a fair catch cuz chances are defenders will be right in your face.

Ever seen people get SMASHED on punt returns right when they catch the ball for not calling a fair catch...YES!!! It is perfect they way it is so I don't understand the problem. WATCH A GAME PEOPLE THIS IS OBVIOUS.

Yes this is very true, I play on all-pro and I dont get many Punt Returns, but i did run a couple back it all depends, In real life games players are lucky if they get 2 yards of space.. You dont see as many Punt returned for Touchdowns.

I do watch games. During the real games there are actually returns.

Ive been watching NFL football since '85 and yeah i have seen people get nailed, but i have also seen a punt returner get good blocks for a good return so no the game does not do a good job in that department!

I'm averaging good yards on returns. Try practicing on scrimage mode. Also make sure you are running the right way with the blocking pattern you selected in the play call screen. Also you can't return a high hanger obviously.

That's the problem, HIGH HANGERS. The CPU kicks these on every punt and you are almost never given a chance to move after fielding the punt. I do call fair catches when I know without a doubt that I am under big time pressure; however, I have witnessed that big time pressure on every stinking punt. The CPU clearly does'nt give you any blocking by your team mates so you have to improvise. Pull back one player before the punt and create your own block. It does'nt work all the time, mostly because of other tacklers within close range as well, but on occasion you can make a move and pick up some positive yardage. This is more realistic to me than having Armageddon in your face EVERY TIME !!!!!!

"That's the problem, HIGH HANGERS."

Exactly. The CPU rarely makes a bad punt, so you are at a disadvantage...that's one thing these games HAVE to work on...how amazingly accurate and strong kickers and punters are...there has been some attention paid lately to the kickers, but none to the punters at all.
