Getting sacked

I'm getting sacked way toooooooooo much. What's my problem? Besides probably having a weak O-line ---- am I staying too long in the pocket or scrambling too much......

what are the common causes of getting sacked...?

Re: Getting sacked

I would say the main culprits are a weak O-line, staying in the pocket too long and scrambing too much.

Sorry, it had to be said.

Seriously, I think it is probably the O-line. I have noticed a huge improvement since I upgraded my O-line.

Holding the ball too long. You need to have a checkdown guy all the time incase of a god pass rush. And if you take too long its probably a good thing if you step up into the pocket to throw.

Re: Getting sacked

I don't know for sure...it depends on your playing style. I was constantly in the bottom 5 for sacks (ie...I was sacked almost the most) with a stone in the pocket (Bledsoe), and so I decided to start another Franchise with Vick. Guess what? I am still in the bottom of the league for getting sacked. Granted, I get out of many more sacks because Vick is mobile, but I run myself into some sacks that Bledsoe wouldn't also.

Oh...and maybe it is just me, but even though I have a stud O-Line with Vick:

LT: 91 OVR
LG: 85 OVR
C: 95 OVR
RG: 79 OVR
RT: 88 OVR

What I notice is that my tackles especially don't seem to ever block. Sure they drop back into pass protection and form a pocket, but they don't block the DE who just loops around them for a sack. So, I step up and between my Guards and Tackles. Not a tremendously big deal, since there is a way around it, but I have looked at many, many replays, and my Tackles just don't block at all. It seems like they stand there and don't engage, but just try to stand in the way, like a tree. And they don't even do a good job of that either, but I digress.

While that may be their overall ratings, what are their pass block ratings?

Re: Getting sacked

That's funny that you mention that they just stand around because that's what I noticed in my replays as well. I thought it was because my o-line wasn't the greatest o-line in the league. Stepping up in the pocket is a 50/50 for me cause half the time, the DT gets an arm on me, prevents me from getting a throw out and the other DT gets the sack. Other times, I'll step into the pocket and release the throw immediately - thus guaranteeing that the sack is not registered. Unless I am committed to a receiver, I cannot step into the pocket and feel assured that I will have enough time to throw.

BTW, my o-line (NYG) leads the league in sacks allowed. I'm pathetic.
