Ya, that's why they took it out, players on the sidelines don't wear their helmets in real life.

I think it is more fun and personal to see the varied faces of your teammates on the sidelines. If they all had helmets on their heads while panning the camera to the sideline, there would be no need for Sega to have different faces underneath them. You would not be able to see them anyway. By having the players without the helmets, they look like individual members of your team and not clones. Make sense?

Not everybody on the sidelines have helmets on. The only people who do, are the one's who are about to go in, in the next play.
