I understand that the PS2 with hard drive will allow the halftime highlights, end of game highlights, and sportscenter to show actual footage from (user) games played. On another note, does anyone know if the hard drive speeds up load times etc. for other games (i.e. ncaa football, resident evil)?

The hard drive will speed up load times but only for games that support it. Supposedly any NEW game that is being developed for the PS2 has to be able to read the hard drive. However, many of the games being released now were being developed before the release of the hard drive so I don't know.
