Re: Is this just my TV?

I recently bought the Monster 400 component cables. I took those out and put in the AV cables that cane with the system, and I get less jaggies.

The reason you get less jaggies with the composite (RCA) cables is that the picture is less detailed to begin with. Since you got the component cables, the picture is much more detailed. I have a feeling you just swapped cables and didn't change the sharpness control or contrast at all. Trust me...properly calibrate your TV. You will not be disappointed.

There are jaggies in the game. It does not use full screen AA.

However, on a 27" you probably shouldn't be seeing many jaggies. I am playing on a 55" HD widescreen and I am seeing minimal jaggies at that size.

One thing to check is if the TV is properly calibrated. Most people who don't know better think that having the sharpness control cranked up on their TV is a good thing. Well, it isn't. Sharpness is there to add artificial sharpening to the picture, which in turn could increase the sense of jaggies.

Also, make sure your contrast and brightness settings are properly calibrated to standard. Blooming from high contrast can wash out the picture and cause a jaggier look. To calibrate, pull out any recent THX certified DVD and use the calibration software on there.

Home theater is a huge hobby of mine and it amazes me how many people don't know what they are missing in regards to picture quality by not properly calibrating their sets. You paid the money for the TV...might as well get the best image possible out of it .

Hope this helps some!

I have the sharpness all the way down. How do I know if the DVD is THX Certified?

Most THX certified movies will have the banner on the box. If not, pop it in, hit play, and watch for the THX intro. The calibration program can usually be found in the DVD setup menu (where you chose which soundtrack you want to listen to).
