I had the same concern actually. It took me a while but I figured out that 5 minute simmed quarters are the best. Reason being that I took 3 NFL games from last year and averaged the number of plays and compared them to a simmed 2K5 game until it came out realistically. In the NFL a real game usually has anywhere between 135 and 150 total plays (both teams). With 5 minute simmed quarters you can expect the computer to average about 140-145 total plays, which falls right into the realistic average.
