I don't think that the national do not call list would cover something like this. It is designed to protect consumers from companies that acquire and sell huge lists of names for telemarketing. Since you just technically did business with Gamestop a few weeks ago, it is not outrageous or unreasonable for them to follow up with you in hopes of generating repeat business. I mean - this is basic marketing (i.e. always follow up with previous customers - in hopes of generating repeat business) - not some sinister corporate plot.

The thing I don't get is why they would call with an annoying reminder. Think about it - how many people who bought ESPN at or around launch are completely unaware that Madden will be coming out soon. If they were smart, they would be calling with a special offer that would compel us to purchase Madden. From a marketing standpoint, you need to offer previous customers some sort of inducement to get them to return for repeat business. Calling a bunch of ESPN fans and simply reminding them that Madden is coming out is a wasted effort in my opinion....

Re: I can\'t believe Gamestop called my house today

Gamestop's net income last year was over 200 million dolllars. Hurting for business, No.
Did they dod what EB does and makes deals every month with a vender to push a certain game, yes. Gamestop will end up with a commmision from EA if they push out enough copies of Madden 05.

You know each month you go into EB and they have certain games on the all they are trying to push. It says "vendor of the month" or "hot titles of the month." None of the managers have a say on that, they are forced to push those titles. If your store performs Low, then you get all sorts of threats to your job security - even the part timer gets threatend.

I've worked wokred in management at both compaines so I know the stupid drills. Why do you think I left? Retail jobs are starting to suck with all the pushing of stuff and harrasment of curstomers. It's like a few 100 million dollars aren't enough for these companies.
