weekly prep: Bring your star player back to form

I lost Deuce McCallister for 8 weeks which ended up ending his season. In the next preseason he was rated at an 81. I was super-pissed about it and I figured it was a lost cause since I simmed up to the regular season where he was an 82. So I loaded up and went back to my preseason again and used a LOT of aerobic and alternative workouts on him (windsprints & piyo x3) and he gradually went up to a 96 by the beginning of the season.
That fires me up. Have any of you guys had to build any of your players back up?
