So has anyone found the fix for the DB play

The way I learned is by playing co-op with a friend. And ironically, I learned the control best by playing WR and running manual routes and manually catching the ball. You can bring those same learned skills to the other side of the ball.

What does holding down the Y button accomplish?

If you press the Y button, your DB covering the WR will react to the ball whether you are controlling him or not. Press Y and he will look to attack the ball. You dont have to try and control him to go to the ball.

Way to post it dude seems like you know your stuff, I also wanted to add that there is an most totally excellent "Defensive training" video in the "Extras" section of the game and it is totally awesome showing all the bottons, strategys and techniques, so do yourself a big favor and view it believe me its worth the time.

You said it! This is why you here people say, make sure you are calling the right defense. If you do, then your DB should be in place to at least break up the play, if not intercept the ball. I personally have zero problems with the DB play in ESPN. The only time I get burned is when I call a bone-head defense, or get caught trying to audible too late.

I always do this and it wokrs so great, people don't relize this, use it will solve almost all your DB problems. Make sure you time it right cause if you don't well you know the rest.........................TD....

do any of you guys let the computer pick your Defencive plays, they pick some good plays.

Thanks for the info, but I mentioned this in my original post. Sure it makes the DB's go for the ball, but there's no sense that I'm the one in control. I do it, and I get picks and such, but my question was about actually controllong the DB's. I know we shouldn't touch the joystick... but what fun is that?
