The extra time it takes has to do with the User having to pick the spike play. The actual animations – the QB calling signals – is the same for both User and CPU… judging from the few experiments I just ran.
And as for programming the D: think about it. Each year, programmers have to somehow create some sort of CPU programming logic that’s going to offer up yet a greater challenge to some pretty skilled video gamers. Last year’s programming will never be good enough. Heck, last MONTH’S programming is probably lame for many already. I think 2K5 made some great D-play strides this year, and they’ll no doubt improve other game play aspects for next year’s version.
