Does anyone own both 2k5 & Madden? Which is better....

The big difference between Madden and ESPN is sliders. If your sliders are adjusted right, ESPN will give you more game than you can handle. Trust me, I know. I am 3-3 in my ESPN franchise (just lost to the Bucs 27-16) and 6-0 in my Madden franchise (beat the Bucs 35-7), same team and same schedule, just different games.

You can point out negatives about Madden if you like and you can say you prefer ESPN but saying Madden is just like last years only goes to prove you clearly haven't played Madden last year and this year. They are nothing whatsoever similar.

I agree wholeheartedly.

While I prefer ESPN over Madden, Madden still is fun. I had a blast at the Madden challenge, but it opened up my eyes to just how arcadey Madden can "get."

Not to deter you from playing it as a "sim." It's pretty damn good in that aspect as well.

It can cater to both crowds a lot better than ESPN can.

Ok, so apparently sarcasm is lost on some people. I'll try again-if you post a question about which game is better in a thread dedicated specifically to ESPN, there's a pretty good chance that the consensus is going to favor ESPN(and before anyone says it, yes, if you posted this question in the Madden forum the result would be just as predictable).

It's like walking into a church and asking the people inside which religion is the one true faith-it's pointless because you already know what they're going to say. If you really want to find the answer to a question like this, you need to seek out multiple points of view, and then make an informed decision.

I have both games and play both on a consistent basis, but personally I feel ESPN is the more complete game from a simulation standpoint. The game has some things that could be improved upon, but overall I feel it's the better game. I think where Madden appeals is that it's a game the casual gamer can pick up and play and have good success with. ESPN on the other hand requires you to really think about what you're doing on both sides of the ball.

I'm more into the X's and O's and when playing any of EA's football games you get the sense that the game developers don't understand how certain schemes should be implemented into the game. For example in Madden on plays that require linemen to pull, they'll only pull if uncovered. This is in no way shape or form how those plays should be executed. The reason I believe they don't pull when covered down is to prevent the defender in that gap from blowing the play up before it gets started. When a back side lineman does pull the play side never blocks down as they should. This is one example of the small details that would fly over the heads of 99% of the people who play football video games, but to those of us who really understand the subtle nuances of the various schemes it's a tad frustrating. In my opinion ESPN implements these things very well.
