Best Teams roster coming...what do you think?

Almost done with a "Best Teams" roster set. These would be possibly the "best" team from each franchise. Very subjective, I know...but to take some of the opinion out of it, I used the stats from www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/ and looked at how they were ranked on offense, defense, point differential, etc.

I only took teams from 1960 on since the teams before that had 40 players max and most of them played both ways, so it is difficult to create a solid roster with them.

Some choices may look odd, but if you examine the stats, you'll see maybe why they are in the list. Not all teams may have won a Championship or SuperBowl, but I don't consider that the biggest parameter in defining a great team. I look more at season dominance and how the team was ranked against others in the league at that time.

Some franchises are no-win choices and will inspire debate and criticism no matter what choice is made. I included the 1978 Steelers because I once heard Bradshaw say he thought that was their strongest team. The 89 49ers are in, but it could just as easily been the 87 or 94 team...the differences were that small. The Colts are tough, but that 1968 team was monster, even though Joe Willie knocked them out in the SB (my hero). Maybe the 1960 Browns should be in there instead of the 1964 team. I may also replace the 1990 Bills with the 1964 team...as unpopular as that may be...but they dominated in 64.

Here you go...possibly the best teams to ever represent these franchises.

All years in NFL edited and correct. All ages edited and correct. Birthdays edited with 2004 as offset. Playbooks set to try to match real-life. Coaches re-named and photos removed. Coach likenesses attempted (matching to current coaches in game). Real run/pass ratios set in coach editor, as well as formation % for older teams. Removed all facial hair (I think) for players before 1969.

This is just a roster set...not a Franchise file.

Since I had the urge to play with the 2000 Ravens against the 2007 Patriots, I noticed a few things while looking over the file in the editor.

1) Why are all the colleges wrong?
2) Why have all the photos been removed for players who have their actual photos?
3) In game - Why is every player and team overrated? Was this done on purpose?

NOTE: I'm playing on PS2. I downloaded the file from dophins site.

Woohoo!!!

Using the 2000 Ravens against the 2007 Patriots. Good close battle. I was winning 16-7 at halftime. Patriots scored 14 unanswered points to take a 21-16 lead but I was able to get back the lead late with a 48 yard TD run with Holmes.

A 15 yard screen pass to Holmes on 3rd and 5 gave me a first down at the two minute warning. Two plays later on 2nd and 8, I put the game away with another first down with a 16 yard pass to Sharpe. Three knees later and I escape NE with a 23-21 win.

Maroney: 12/100, 3 TD

1) I did not edit the colleges...I wanted to concentrate on ratings and appearances. Truth is, I got burned out editing after a while and just could not take the College thing on.

2) I don't remember...I think because some of them were wrong and I said screw it...remove them all!

3) Yeah...I have a different way of rating players...I am looking for the best on field action so I go about things a bit differently. Team ratings don't mean a thing to me to be honest. Feel free to update to your satisfaction.

capa, still LOVE the roster, but i was curious, any new recent single teams to be added anytime soon? how about the 09 saints? 10 jets? 05, 08 or 10 steelers? 10 packers? was there any reason why the 02 raiders, 05 seahawks or 06 bears (super bowl teams) were never added before? (all the teams suggested have the same uniforms still used in the game....)
