South Florida at New York

New York Rides Johnson To Victory

After Shawn James went down with an injury in the first quarter, it looked like Jed Johnson was going to have to do some spot-on work. He did it very well, throwing for two scores and leading New York to their first ever Big East victory, a 35-14 rout over last year's second place finisher, the South Florida Bulls.

Johnson went 15-24 with 176 yards passing after James left early, being hurt when he threw a touchdown pass to Gabe Henderson late in the first quarter.

There were no turnovers in the game, which meant a lot of work for the punters, who combined for 600 yards in total punting yards. Henderson ran for and caught a touchdown, while Matt Smith, who has been dissapointing all year, caught a pass for six as well.

Up next are winless Syracuse, as New York will try to move back to .500 and have a chance at *gasp* a bowl game. James should be back for the game.

Syracuse at New York

Orange Blue After Another Loss

This was not the way the season was supposed to go for the Syracuse Orange.

In heartbreaking fashion, Syracuse blew a two score lead, then missed a 19 yard field goal in overtime to fall 31-28 in the first extra frame to the New York Vipers, who climb back to .500 and are in the midst of the bowl hunt.

Syracuse outplayed New York, but turned the ball over four times, including three interceptions that killed possible scoring drives.

Tom Richards ran for 158 yards and a score for the Orange, but Shawn James of the Vipers threw for three scores, and the Syracuse quarterback with picked off three times.

Syracuse falls to 0-9 on the year, and appear to be falling fast from contention as a major program like they were five years ago. In contrast, New York could be the first team in a long time to make it to a bowl game in their first year in 1A football.

New York will face off against the option attack of Navy in New York next week.

New York Sunk By Naval Academy

Coming off two big wins, the New York Vipers had a bit of a letdown game, getting smacked around on the ground by Navy 56-13.

New York at West Virginia

Air Raid On New York

Navy smashed through them on the ground, so New York made a ton of changes to the defense in order to get ready for another solid rushing attack in West Virginia. Instead, they got beat threw (ha ha) the air.

Pat White threw for six touchdowns and ran for a score and the Mountaineers continued their march to the National Championship, demolishing the Vipers 62-15 in a game that was not as close as the score suggested.

New York managed a puny 125 yards on offense, and could not move the ball at all against a very good West Virginia defense. Replacement centre John Jackson, in for the suspended Evan Spurlock, could not contain the charging D, and gave up four sacks, while being manhandled all day.

New York only decent performance was from linebacker Kenny Rush, who had five tackles. After that, everyone just stunk. Up next is Rutgers, and with potential recruits coming to visit New York, the Vipers need to play well to not only woo those recruits, but stay in the hunt for a bowl.

Also, star quarterback Shawn James was completely leveled by Kevin McLee, and is done for the year with a severe concussion. Just to cap off a perfect game
