Reverse the Curse: Maize's Detroit Lions

So many of you on here may not know who I am, but this is not my first dynasty. I posted a baseball site a few weeks ago, after I had got the craving to do another dynasty. Baseball, and MLB 2k9 did not hold my interest, so I went to my first love, football. I have decided to take over my favorite team, the Detroit Lions.

Going through another major retooling, the future looks bright in Detroit. After the draft, I wanted to do a dynasty and I am excited about this one. I want to start right after the draft, and thanks to daniverson, I have the rosters on Madden '09 to do that. This dynasty will be focused on realism and writing.

Below is the lowdown for my dynasty. I hope you all enjoy this, and if you have any questions or comments, just let me know.

Dynasty Information
Platform: Playstation 2
Gameplay Level: All-Pro
Quarter Length: 7 Minutes
Sliders: Custom, always a work in progress with Madden.
Rosters: Daniverson's updated franchise file
Other Teams: Since all the teams are controlled on the updated franchise file, it will actually work to my advantage. I will have the computer do everything but the draft and owner mode. Since the draft AI is horrible, I will draft for all 32 teams (hopefully with some input). I will also update stadiums and such, and possibly even coaches.
Training Camp: I think it is an unfair advantage to use training camp, so I will not use it at all.
Pre-Season: I will not play the pre-season games, but sim them with injuries turned down from their normal level during the season.
Season: I will play ten of sixteen games every season. I will play all of the divional games, the Thanksgiving game, home opener, season finale, and any other important games (Sunday Night, MNF, Game of the Week)
Playoffs: If I do make the playoffs, the games will be playd and a small recap will be given for all other playoff games.
Post-season Stick to realism in signing, RFAs, coaching moves, etc.
Trades: Trades including draft picks and future picks will be included. Also, only allowed two player trades per season, only one can include starters.
Draft: Drafting for all 32 teams and also making draft-day trades (including future picks). I am trying to update the future draft picks for 2010 and beyond.

Hey Maize, its blaze from DC.....nice to see you still doing dynasties. I think ima start posting dynasties on OS now since MM is becoming less popular. I'll definetly be following this.

And I changed my username because I'm transferring to Oklahoma State for the fall.

Hey Blaze, good to see you over here. Congrats on Okie State, good luck with that. I am excited about doing a dynasty, this is probably going to hold me over until NCAA '10. Thanks for following.

Re: Reverse the Curse: Maize's Detroit Lions

New Start for New-Look Lions
The 2009 NFL Draft, the first draft with new Head Coach Jim Schwartz and with Martin Mayhew at the helm. The new look Lions, with a new attitude, are hoping to rebound from a historically bad 2008 season. Going defeated, the Lions cleaned house, firing General Manager Matt Millen, and after the season, letting go Head Coach Rod Marinelli, it was a new day in Detroit.

Trying to end a historical losing past, the team began the rebuilding process. Helping the Lions was 10 draft picks, including the first overall pick, which the Lions drafted Georgia Quarterback Matthew Stafford. A born leader with an unbelievable arm, he will battle Daunte Culpepper for the starting spot. Not looking to rush the rookie signal-caller, the team has faith in Daunte Culpepper, who has dropped 25 pounds and is the "currently No. 1 [on the depth chart]" in the words of Offensive Coordinator Scott Linehan, echoed by Head Coach Jim Schwartz.

The Lions struggled offensively, but the defense was ranked last overall in the NFL. The team looks to add many new starters, including the recently signed linebacker Larry Foote. He joins Julian Peterson, who comes via a trade with Seattle, in which the Lions shipped off Corey Redding. Now a solid linebacker core will help a retooled defense. The scheme will see a change as well, as Gunther Cunningham joins the coaching staff to bring a new attitude to the Lions defense.

The Lions organization is looking to "reverse the curse," referring to a often discussed curse surrounding the Lions organization. After the 1957 World Championship win by the Detroit Lions, Quarterback Bobby Layne was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the 50 year stretch stretch between 1958 and 2008, the Lions have made the playoffs nine times, with one win ('91). Also in those 50 years, the team has the worst winning percentage in the NFL.

Many believe the Quarterback position has been most to blame for the Lions futility. Only one Quarterback for the Lions has been named to the Pro-Bowl, Greg Landry in 1970. Only one other, Scott Mitchell, was named an alternate. Matthew Stafford looks to be the asnwer, with any connections to Bobby Layne himself. The two attended Highland Park High School in Texas, and Matthew Stafford broke the high school's state championship drought, that dated back to Bobby Layne's time as Quarterback.
