Re: Joe Saunders ~ Houston Texans (HC09)

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to get some more draft picks higher up (or just more in general)? Tips are always welcome!

EDIT: Woops, forgot the new players contracts.

RG Ben Noll (23 y/o, 86 ovr, 88 Pot) - 4 yrs, 19.0 M, 2.5 M bonus
LOLB Michael Boley (24 y/o, 86 ovr, 87 Pot) - 4 yrs, 16.0 M, 4.0 M bonus
FS Eugene Wilson (27 y/o, 90 ovr, 90 Pot) - 5 yrs, 24.0 M, 5.5 M bonus
P Matt Turk (39 y/o, 84 ovr, 85 Pot) - 1 yrs, 1.0 M, 0 bonus

And Wilson's overall is actually 90, I forgot to change the philosophy.

I'm now 20.5 M under the cap (before draft).

Ya know it totally disappeared, it's crazy. I have no idea where the hell it went! Has that happened before? I really don't remember trading it at all (and I don't have any new stars on my team that would warrant a first round pick).

Boley is an RFA the first offseason, so thats where you lost your 1st rounder...probably.

TEXANS DRAFT RESULTS

April 26th, 2008; New York City

Despite not having any picks on the first day of the draft, Houston and coach Joe Saunders still wanted to escape with some sleepers, mainly for the defensive side of the ball.

"We tried to trade up to grab a player on the first day, but the deals all asked too much."

THIRD ROUND
Saunders and his crew really wanted HB Ray Rice out of Rutgers. He was projected to go in the second round, but slipped until the second day instead. With the 79th pick in the draft, Saunders knew he wouldn't slip all the way to him. So he traded his 3rd round pick (79th) and a 4th round pick (115) to Oakland for that pick. And with that, he took his man.
69th pick - HB Ray Rice, Rutgers
Approval: Fans +20

Houston almost went through with a trade for the Eagles 3rd rounder as well, the 80th pick, to get DT Dre Moore, but they backed out at the last second. Moore ended up going 85th.

FOURTH ROUND
I don't know how the hell this happened, but the Texans ended up with the 105th pick from the Broncos (I should've had the 113th?). Houston wanted OLB Xavier Abidi, and felt that he'd be available a bit later. They also had a couple DTs on their radar, but no one they felt was deserving of a higher pick. So they traded down.
Texans trade 105th pick to Eagles for 116th pick, 185th pick (6th round), and 215th pick (7th round).
With the 116th, everyone expected Houston to go for Adibi. "In the end, we just felt there was another OLB we could get further on in the draft that had the skills we wanted."
So they shocked everyone, by drafting RT Demetrius Bell.
116th pick - RT Demetrius Bell, Northwestern

5TH ROUND
With the 146th pick, Saunders listened to his GM and picked a guy high on his draft list, DT Athya Rubin.
146th pick - DT Athya Rubin, Iowa State

6TH ROUND
Houston's OLB that they wanted went a few picks earlier, so they tried to find a gem. They decided on MLB Vince Hall.
161st pick - MLB Vince Hall, Virginia Tech
They then went after a backup safety, in Josh Barrett out of Arizona State, who has huge potential.
185th pick - FS Josh Barrett, Arizona State

7TH ROUND
There wasn't much that caught their eye, but they went ahead and got their OLB, in Erin Henderson for their last pick.
221st pick - ROLB Erin Henderson, Maryland

Approval at end of draft: 71

Undrafted rookies
HB Xavier Omon
WR Dorien Bryant
DE Tony Bake
OLB David Vadora
K Alexis Serna

"We are very happy with how the draft turned out. We got young guys with potential, and they won't be too expensive to sign," said Saunders. "We are VERY pleased with the undrafted rookies we were able to get, as Omon can be a great backup in a few years, Bake will immediately help out the defense, Vadora will compete for a spot, and Serna will be a fantastic, young kicker for us."

I know, curse my lack of knowledge for what restricted FA means!

I'm still pretty happy with the way it turned out, got some players I wanted, but missed out on a few I was really looking at.

Contracts and pre-season roster posted shortly.

Re: Joe Saunders ~ Houston Texans (HC09)

Okay this is really weird.

Y'all know how Atlanta got my first round pick? Well they picked Rashard Mendenhall, and after that it said in my draft recap that I drafted him (I'm 110% sure I never picked him, didn't even have that pick) and that he's on my team, I'm actually doing the contract negotiation now. It's crazy as hell, but I guess now I have Rashard Mendenhall as well as Ray Rice?

So..not really sure what to do. I COULD start over, if y'all would support that, I'm not really against it. Mendenhall is a bit better than Rice obviously, so I may keep both or may use Rice as trade bait.

Weird though...
